I just saw this on msnbc
shocking is all I can say. I mean if he is trying this now when physically he's still at (or near) the top of his game what happens when he's a bit older and unable to play. Seems really unstable and puts his other antics in a new light.
He's always trying to garner attention and a lot of times attempted suicide is just that an attempt to get attention and/or a cry for help. Most people who try to kill themselves really don't want to but are looking for help.

If only he could have succeeded at one thing for once.

That's a heartless thing to say. While I don't like the man very much, I don't wish that he'd kill himself.

I despise the man myself. But here is a person who has almost everything going for him and anything he wants and dreams of. His previous actions have proved he's an idiot. He is a cancer to anyone around him. The fact that he's a jerk and gets away with it while living the dream that most people won't ever experiance and is willing to take his own life and throw it all a way just solidifies my feelings on him.
I'm a person who finds it hard to feel sorry for anyone, including myself. Life sucks for everyone one way or another. So suck it up.
People who aren't mentally competent enough to handle and want to take the easy way out will get no no sympathy from me.
Maybe he finally realized why nobody really respects him (even though he is an amazing athlete and probably the most gifted WR to ever play the game) or cares about him. Because he's a Jerk!
Now that he's failed at something again I hope he can turn over a new leaf and become a better person. I won't hold my breath.

I said this on another forum, so rather than re-typing, I'll just quote myself:
I'm not a big fan of TO, but I respect his talent. However, this is not about a person's image or football skill. This is about his life. And, like him or not, suicide is a terrible thing for the people around him that do care about him.
Was this a call for help? Most likely. Considering that he just took pills and not something more drastic.
But we should also consider this: He had surgery just last week, which is why he probably had the pain pills in the first place. That kind of thing can cause some introspective thoughts that end up with wondering how he got from San Fran to Baltimore to Philly to Dallas and how his career has been in a tailspin.
I don't know about the rest of you. But I've suffered from depression since I hit puberty. Luckily, I've never attempted suicide and only a few times when I was very young did I think about it.
But I have had friends who have committed suicide. It's something that effects me to this day. It's not a joking matter, that's for sure. It's the ultimate act of selfishness. So you can figure out for yourself how it fits with TO's character.
I wish TO a speedy recovery and I hope that he gets some counseling. I don't know if the NFL mandates such a thing, but I hope they provide it.
Love or hate TO, wishing he had killed himself is a pathetic thing. Think about all the people who would hurt because of his death - his family, friends, fans, and consider the effect on the kids who admire football players.

It may be a cry for help, but in truth, this season is one for him to prove himself to his critics, and now it has been set back because of an injury. I could see how a competitor would find that depressing.
