BBC NEWS | Technology | Intel offers prize for sexiest PC
Well, sort of. They'll give you $300,000 to manufacture it, and $400,000 to market it.
If you have any good ideas for a computer case, seems like a great opportunity. I've seen some pretty damn cool designs from some people making fake Apple products.

Yeah, the only problem is that they all mimick Apple design.
I doubt Intel is looking for something that screams "Apple copycat".

I see the words but they just don't make any sense.

A couple months after the Mini came out Intel showed off a concept PC to influence manufactures what direction to take on future PC design.
What does this scream to you?

You don't get it, do you ?
If Intel was just after copying Apple, they would not need to offer a prize for a good new design.

Maybe I'll paint my Mac Pro 2.66GHz red and put some pinstripes on it. That should let me win. Along with a laserdisc burner

Naw really?
What you don't get is you said "I doubt Intel is looking for something that screams "Apple copycat".
When they already released a prototype telling PC manufactures to model after what looks like a mini. Seems like they DO want an Apple copycat.

Good for you.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I still think SWG has misread my response.
My whole point was replying to olePigeon, saying that I don't think Intel is looking for fake Apple designs from those dudes that do all their phantasie mock-ups. If Intel wanted to blatantly copy Apple's design, they would not need to give away a $ 700,000 price for getting "fresh" ideas. Any second year design student can cut-and-paste new designs working of Apple's ideas. So again, what am I missing here ?

Speculative.
It's also possible that they learned their lesson and are now looking for something completely different from Apple's design. Nobody knows.
But why pay $ 700,000 for knock-offs that a trained monkey can come up with ?

I could win that contest easily.
Just ship 'em the 'Deliverance' machine and watch their jaws drop.
But it wouldn't be fair to all the other participants.
Besides, my PC cases aren't commodities that should be manufactured and sold in bulk.
Only 9 examples of my work exist. And I have 4 of them. One turned up at the CEBIT 2003 exhibition. One was never returned after it was loaned to a marketing guy from Abit (whatever year the VP-6 motherboard was introduced). I have no idea where the others are.
if you see this one anywhere - let me know >

Well, what do you want ?
You asked if 700k is an odd number. I said, "no", because I wouldn't know why 700k would be an odd number.
Well, I could have been smart and said that 700k is not odd, but even. Ah well.
