Sorry to ressurect an ancient thread.
I just watched " Twilight"; an episode from season 3 of Enterprise -- it's amazing. I didn't see it in the first pass through broadcast (yay for bittorrent). Maybe Bakula is only effective in alternate-time-line scripts, but he did a supurb job in this treat of a TV episode.
I find the time-travel motif distateful, as with the season finale of Voyager; but in the rare instance where it is both plausable and constuctive, it's brilliant. I wish they had extended the show for longer. It's what Star Trek is all about.

Brilliant? Please. It was a POS from start to end. A train wreck from conception to execution. That it lasted four seasons was testament only to Paramount trying to save some face (oh and enough episodes for syndication).

NEVER POST TO A THREAD THAT'S MORE THAN 6 MONTHS OLD!!!!!!!
Gee folks, that's been a rule for a LONG time!
Anyway, Gorn, bringing the world of Earth pre-Federation to the viewers was DEMANDED by the fans. They wanted it, and Braga and company complied. But the problem was that Braga didn't have a good idea of what Earth pre-Federation was like, and no real clue about what stories to tell.
It WAS a cool series, but Braga killed it through not building a decent idea of what to say before they started.

Building the entire plot on time-travel was almost as bad as the lost in space plot for Voyager.

That was a stupid choice, particularly since they never resolved any of it (except for the way Selik (?) managed to show his true colors in the fourth season opener). Who was his boss? Why were they doing this? Why choose Archer and his crew and then not do more with them (at least in the stories)?
But I have to say that the cast was good, they worked hard at it, and their shows were exceptionally watchable. And it beat the heck out of "Surviver" and "American Idol" etc.!

The worst thing about Enterprise was that they cast Scott Bakula. Never could take him seriously as captain, thought he'd leap out any minute.
"Captain, alien vessel approaching!"
"Oh, boy!"

This past year I've started watching the reruns of Enterprise, and while in the past I was quite opposed to Scott Bakula as being the captain, it didn't take me long to like his character. Even if some of the timeline stuff wasn't always that great, they had an excellent cast, and the character developments/interactions were really good.

It was horrible.
Season 1 = Bad
Season 2 = Horrible
Season 3 = Pretty good
Season 4 = Mixed bag. Some good, some so so. All was still to Trekie and nothing new.
The show could have been retro and cool but it was just BAD and inconstant. And what was up with making the last episode a TNG episode which was insulting to the Enterprise cast.
Enterprise turned me off trek and I am glad because it pushed me to more original and better shows like BSG which is as anti-trek as they come as it deals with real situations and real people and doesn't feel forced.
Star Trek Nemesis was also pretty bad in ways as it was trying to be so dark and Wrath of Kahn that it just turned out to be depressing as their was no high points or the crew we all know and love coming together to beat the odds. On the plus side it had some amazing art direction but that is all I can really say good about it.
Star Trek needs to go away for 10 years and come back re-invented as in the current theme it has all been done 8x over.

It is not ALL true.
For one, Voyager should have turned you off to Trek long before Enterprise.

Ha well it did at some episodes yes, especially anything with the Dr. At the time it was less played out though.
Enterprise was cancelled for a reason, it had nothing new and even the hard core trekies like me had had enough.
I don't think there was one episode was was truly surprised in or something happened unexpectedly.

The casting is what let Enterprise down big time - Bakula just can't act if his life depended on it and the same can be said about Dominic Keating (Reed). If they had cast these two roles and maybe did some better screen plays then Enterprise would have gone its full 7 years and they'd be talking movies by now.
I always hoped that Archer and Reed would be killed in an away mission and get replaced by believeable actors.

Yes it was nice for Enterprise but it was still typical Trek. I mean temprel paracites, alternet future yadda yadda and to finish it off the good old "reset button" at the end.
After watching the first 15 minutes of Star Trek Voyager or Enterprise and you can figure out exactly how it will end.
Entcounter a new planet with a problem.. some of your crew get into trouble off the ship... push human ideals on other cultures as we're the best...spaceship battle...swooping technobabble rescue in the end..set course for starbase or other destination to fix all the damage.... next episode... forget all that happened and all is fixed and back to normal. Repeat.

I actually quite laked Bakula. He played the role well.

I think it would have been very funny if all of the technical tinkering carried over from one episode to the next, so that you could have scenes with Geordi saying stuff like, "Well, ordinarily I would just reroute the power through the main deflector dish, but I already reversed the polarity on that conduit back a couple of weeks ago when the Holodeck took over the ship, so now we're just screwed."

Ya and not to mention ridding the ship each week of all those yucky temporary modifications that made the ship 10x more powerful.
When voyager installed all those neat borg modifications for a mission that made the ship more powerful and how they couldn't wait to get rid of them by the end so they could go back to being a weak little ship and using stock ship footage.

TOS had minimal eye-candy, but a decent story
TNG had more eye-candy, and a pretty good story
DS9 has even more eye-candy, but the story was pretty stagnant up until the Dominion War
VOY was up to par with DS9 in terms of GFX, story was great..... plus, me being an Asian American, this was the first time i REALLY got to see an Asian character grow from a shy, nobody to a more assertive somebody who makes a difference. Plus the scene where Harry Kim's mother embarrased him in front of his crewmates was funny. (reminds me of me)
ENT had the BEST eye-candy thus far, the story was alright, but since it was meant to fill-in the gaps of the Star Trek universe, most of it came as no surprise........................ with the exception of season's 3 and 4........ most of it was original, so it was great. Plus, this is the first time anybody in the Trek universe has ever said "YOU SON OF A B*TCH!" on network TV........... i think the occasional swearing makes the actors less "stiff" and more believable.
As for the movies... "ST: First Contact" was the best........ well..... next to "ST: IV - The Voyage Home"...... they actually rode Muni (city bus of San Fran.)!!! If you're a San Franciscan, you'd realize how humorous it is, it's sad.
