Am I the only one that has found it a little funny that the media seems to be focussed around "Cory Lidle dies, let's put his life under a microscope and look at his fabulous career", but there seems to be very little attention put on the people that were injured and/or traumatized by this incident?
Just saying...
I guess the moral of the story is: if you want attention around your death, become a celebrity!

I bet there'd be alot less attention if he was still on the Phillies and this happened in Philadelphia.

This article is a good explanation of why people are a little fascinated by it.

There was plenty of attention that was put on people affected by the accident. I read about the Mets' third base coach who lives in the building, and the Mets had to put him up in an apartment last night. Alec Baldwin lives in the same building, also, and was apparently quite traumatized that the police kept him out of the building after the accident.

Hehehe... we need Cody Dawg in here to brief us on other celebrity related news this story spawned

There was a lot of interest here, in the tri-state area. For many reasons. The first was that initial radio reports said, 'an aircraft has hit a building in lower Manhatten'. Then it was learned that one of the persons in the plane was a NY Yankee. Since the death of Thurman Munson, all Yankee contracts contained a clause that all players who pilot planes must do so with an instructor at all times. Another angle was that while this was unfolding, his wife and 6 year old son was on a flight to California, and they knew nothing of the accident. Supposedly, there was to be a priest to meet the plane upon landing. Was all this newsworthy? That's up to you to determine.

I think part of it also was that the building was not your garden-variety apartment complex, it was in a somewhat upscale part of town. (Does E 72nd qualify as Yorkville? My knowledge of Manhattan geography has gotten quite rusty...) I mean, Alec Baldwin lives there. If you're looking for the "non-famous people" that this tragedy has affected, you might find a few people who couldn't go to the doctors' offices on the ground floor that day, or people snarled in traffic on the FDR drive but that's about it. It probably didn't even stop the subway, since there's still no Second Avenue line yet.

By the way, congrats on your Mets.
