I ran across this ad on the back cover of US News and World Report. I didn't believe it at first, but it's true.
The mommy killing the bunny comic book is actually something PETA distributes. I knew these people were nuts but this is just crazy, crazy, crazy. It nearly traumatized my daughter when she saw the ad. I told her I was going to put this on the web to warn other parents. She has been bugging me to do it ever since. "Dad, you have to put this on the web! So kids will know that Mommies don't really kill bunnies like this!" And she's right. Even with the killing of animals to get pelts for fur coats, Mommies aren't killing bunnies like this! I think PETA has gone waaaay too far here.
You can view the entire doc tha PETA distributes at the bottom of this page.*

How dare these people interfere with your Godâ„¢ given right to consume and be ignorant.

Anyway, the comic is definitely way over the top and also completely unnecessary, because unlike most of their adult counterparts, most healthy kids have a natural disdain for cruelty against animals.

If I change my way of living, and if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving…

So you condone, in principle, showing violence to children?

I thought that picture was hilarious. Completely idiotic to show this stuff to children of course, but that manic woman stabbing at a deeply worried looking bunny had me laughing out loud.

PETA is a bunch of hypocritical idiots who have no idea of the ramifications of their basic philosphy. They should all have to live a whole month without ANY animal-based products anywhere near them, nor any access to any medical intervention that had any hint of animal research behind it. That might thin their ranks out quite a bit...

They want to create outrage by doing outrageous things. This fits perfectly with their general methods.

Frankly I don't see what upsets people.

PETA sure is sexist.

PETA reminds me of the WWF (not the wrestlers.) Their only concern is for animals that look cute. They don't give a rats ass about other animals that are critical to the ecosystem.

I bet at least half of them ware leather tennis shoes.

Funny. My mom never did that. It was my dad that killed the bunnies we ate when I was a kid.

Outrageous behavior is the sign to a weak mind.

Do you think children should be exposed to dishonest violent images like PETA distributes?

If you say "yes", then here's the answer to your question: people like you.

Being swayed by it is. If your children are being taught by ads instead of their parents it might be an issue. Can't imagine how being vegetarian is the worst thing to befall a child.

This is very tame compared to what kids are exposed to these days. "Dishonest" is so vague. Like I say: there are far worse things for your kids to believe than PETA's bull.

I didn't actually ask a question.

I love PETA

People

Animals

I'll take mine medium rare.

PETA is a bunch of terribly misinformed extremists. Enough, I've spent too much of my time on them already. They are not worth it.

The image is actually "against" fur coats, not meat. Or mommies, though it's hard to tell from the illustration. Maybe there needs to be a PETM?

I have the "Daddy" version of that ad on my wall at work. It's hilarious.

Incidentally, how many women actually wear fur coats these days? I don't know any.

We are what we eat – and for human beings, that involves making moral choices as well.

The "omnivore"(evolutionary) argument is weak, since it ignores the conscious moral choice you are making by indulging in a habit (not a necessary prerequisite for survival or adaptation).

Oh, and by the way, the article is about the fur industry, not vegetarianism.

You might want to ask the "entertainment industry" the same thing, especially in regards to movie ratings, where a film depicting violent and awfully graphic material usually gets a PG-13 rating, while anything that involves sexual situations etc. very often is rated NC-17 (or XXX).

If I had kids, I would make sure they wouldn't be exposed to anything they couldn't deal with on an emotional or intellectual level. I wouldn't show them anything psychologically damaging or harmful.

I hate PETA - they are a bunch of radical, liberal extremists that deserve to be beaten with a huge stick.

Hey PETA! I love eating meat, especially beef steak at the Outback. Yummy!

I also have four ferrets that are in a very large cage. Hint for PETA: they are domesticated and have been for thousands of years. Why don't you try to come and "free" them? I am sure Mr. Rifle would love to make an appointment with you once you enter my home. LOL

generalization.

Congratulations. Would you kill a cow to eat it?

Who would try and free a domesticated animal you have taken under your care?

I love these peta threads. People fight against the percieved view that they assume thousands of peta members have. I am vegetarian, and have been for 11 years. However, I think PETA is a bunch of idiots and think generating awareness through shock and awe tactics is a bit peurile and ineffective.

Eh, I don't think Moore is anywhere near as bad as PETA. He tends to make some good points and fairly persuasive arguments, then he'll suddenly come out with one or two crazy things that makes the people who were agreeing with him before feel kind of embarrassed. It's frustrating because I always feel like he probably has something interesting to say, but then he goes and mixes in the attention-getting crazy stuff.

PETA, on the other hand, is just out of touch.

Why would you be suspicious of that name?!?! Should they have hidden their agenda better in a nice little dishonest acronym like PETA?

Huh? What is dishonest about Acronyms? Peta's official name is People for the Ethical treatment of animals. That's quite a handful to read/write, so PETA became the accepted substitute.

Now, I agree they are a bunch of nutcases, but that doesn't automatically make them dishonest.

Ok, you're right. Dishonest name it is. These aren't people for the ethical treatment of animals. These are people for the anything but humans even though they are an animal too and humans are evil and I hate myself. But that would be a horrible acronym too.

You mean real issues like an irrational fear of Muslim immigrants, or real issues like a politician having hawwt intarweb sex with male interns?
