My brother might have a malignant tumor. So I need people to pray for him so the operation will go well and that it is bening. 2 years ago he had skin cancer and they never check if the cancer was gone. He has been complaining of pain for the past year, they never did anything. Now, he might be dying. Please just take 2 minutes and pray for him.

That's very sad, Monique. Why do they think he has a tumor?

What kind of skin cancer did he have? Melanoma? I have always told people to go in and get their skin checked all of the time for skin cancer and never take chances, ever.

The doctor told him that he had one. And yes it was melanoma.

My thoughts are with you and your brother today.

I am, however, confused. It sounds to me as though two years ago your brother had cancer and the doctors did something about it then, but they never followed up to make sure it stayed in remission even when he complained of more pain. Am I understanding this right?

That is very unfortunate and sad, Monique.

I had melanoma once back when I was 23. I had to go in repeatedly for follow-up for months. It was a tiny black speck on my calf that started in a mole. It just looked...different. It was tiny but it looked sinister because it was this black spot in the middle of a freckle. I went in to have it looked at just for the heck of it and was shocked when the diagnosis came back. I was so very fortunate to have found it because it was a "0" in terms of thickness. I've never had another one but I've had about 25 moles and freckles and weird spots removed since. I encourage others to go in annually to see a dermatologist just to have a skin exam.

I only wish that other people had excellent care and I wish your brother had had a better medical support system.

I am - I am sure we all are - very sorry, Monique.

Not that this has much bearing on your suffering, but the treatment he received sounds fishy to me. Cancer survivors I know go in to the doctor constantly to check for relapses. I hope this oversight wasn't due to the nationalized healthcare up there?

My Mom is going in for low level radiation therapy at MD Anderson in Houston next week. She has several benign tumors in her head and had an operation several years ago that resulted in a massive stroke on the operating table. She's having problems again now and the doctors say she can't sustain surgery or gamma knife because she is too fragile, so they are going to try low level radiation, which will cause brain swelling. She just turned 60. I worry so much about her.

I can understand your concern, Monique and I wish your brother the best. If I was religious, I would be praying for him every night, along with my Mom.

Monique, I seem to recall you stated you are Jewish. May I ask what his Hebrew name and your mother's Hebrew name is? I will recite special prayers for him. Feel free to prvmsg it to me.

Enough of this nonsense. Go start your little prayer debate in the appropriate forum. I don't want to see anymore comments that don't directly relate to Monique's original post. Sometimes you need to just let it go for the greater good. This thread was never about whether you believe or your thoughts on religion or anything of the sort, so give it a rest.

Monique, I sincerely wish the best to your brother and yourself. For whatever they are worth, you have my prayers.

My mom went through chemo for breast cancer. It's tough, but I can give your brother a hint that got my mom through:

Think positive! I've always believed that at least 50% of recovery is sure will power. Being a scientific person myself, there's even evidence to support that. She wore tiedied shirts, funky colored hats, even wore horns shoes once like a clown that honked when she walked. She made it, I think your bro can too.

you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods,
you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen F. Roberts

Monique, please have a look at olePigeon's post above about will power, then have your brother read this:

Do not doubt.

Your bro is on my prayer list.
