I'm just curious what the results of this will be. What do you set your computer to do at night?

I usually keep it on (but let the display go to sleep, of course) to download stuff while I'm asleep.

I once had it run SETI during the night but then I saw the electric bills. Now it sleeps.

I used to put it to sleep, but these days my MacBook Pro is faster than the dedicated compute servers for the lab (!!), so I do my work locally. So I leave it on, plugging away at crunching numbers.

Yes. In fact, they do it automatically if you leave them alone for a while.

Drinks and gambles. No doubt about it.

After the free drinks run out, SETI data gets crunched.

It gets to sleep when I get to sleep which, unfortunately, is nowhere near often enough. More often than not it's awake until two or three in the morning doing homework with me... but unlike me, it usually gets to sleep in. Lucky bastard.

I'm the only person who turns it off? The fan noise annoys me, as do the little LED lights. Of course, my friends used to make fun of me due to the fact that I place electrical tape over all of the electronic displays in my room (tv, a/v receiver, etc). Hmm

What computer do you use? New macs are dead silent when in sleep.

Not desktops, they keep running the fans. Only the hard drive and monitor power down in sleep.

My old iMac G3 did this, but not my G4 desktop after that ("digital audio").

Okay, was there a better way I could have titled this thread, so that you guys would actually just say what you "set" your computer to do at night, as opposed to pretending that it does stuff by itself?

I added the last two options to the poll, not macgeek2005. They seemed appropriate to the way the question was phrased, and how the thread was going.

Please be advised that abuse of other members is not allowed. "moron" doesn't fly here, for multiple reasons.
