Ok, I'm about ready to purchase one of these phones and I just can't decide which one I want. What I like about the w810i is that it's smaller/lighter than the k790a. It's also a little cheaper and takes cheaper memory cards. The 2mp camera it has is still pretty good. What I like about the k790a is the 3.2 mp camera is fantasic. The qvga screen is also extremely nice. My major hangups on the k790a is basically the size of the phone. In the pictures it looks kind of big but I've read the dimensions and it's not that bad. I'm also a little worried about texting on that keypad.
Can anyone that has the k790a show me which headphones it comes with. The w810i ones are really nice from what I understand. I won't use the mp3 player alot but will from time to time. I really want one of these phones for the camera. Any input would be appreciated.

How's the speed of the UI & text input of the K800/K790 vs a T610/T630/K608?

I noticed however that K790 is approximately of same size as T610, the greatest SE hit. I am myself w700i user (basically same model as 810i but camera without AF) and can say that the w700i is great and has one advantage of w810i: its camera has lens cover while the lens in 810i is open and prone to dust and so on

I ended up picking up a w810 instead. The QVGA screen was more tempting on the k790 than the 3.2 mp camera but the price difference (including buying a bigger m2 card) and the size difference changed my mind about getting the k790. I love my w810.

No, the K800i is much larger than the T610. It's a giant phone.

However, w700i and w810i are smaller than both k790 and t610 by same margin. Which makes k790=t910 (but t610 is a bit slender as well, perhaps). Hard to say that k790 is giant, its just a bit larger than k750-w810-w700 series

yeah I kind of thought it was bigger too. I keep my phone in my pocket and every bit smaller makes a big difference.

I just upgraded my w800i to a w810i. What a great phone. The only differences I noticed are:
The 810 doesn't have a shutter on the camera lens.
The 810's screen shuts down fast and I can't figure out how to change it.
The 800 showed the time when the screen shut down, the 810 just shows black.
Other than that, after having it for only a few hours, I love it.

One other thing to consider is that the K790a/i is only triband and takes m2 micro which I believe is limited to 1gb (expensive) a the moment.
The w810i is quadband and takes the cheaper, bigger, and widely available memory stick pro duo which goes up to 4gb at the moment.
The w810i can also be had through cingular, subsided and under warranty, whereas the K790a/i has to be purchased unlocked and unbranded (good thing for me because I don't like branding, but the w810i can be purchased like this as well).
The camera on the k790i/a/k800i is obviously better because of the flash and slightly better picture quality but I prefer the inexpensive and smaller w810i, which I got for my 13 year old kid sister.
I'm rocking the ever-so-slim Nokia E50 with great data functionality

Both of those should be under display-preferences.

I just bought the w810i last month and it's been great. I also received a promo deal and got a 4GB memory stick (Sony brand even!) on top of my 1GB stick that came with the phone +$50 rebate. So I actually got the phone for free and then some after promotions.
$200-$190-$50 = $40 profit!
And the best part is I can use either of the memory sticks in my PSP now.

Not to advertise any other forum or anything, but howardforums is pretty much your one-stop destination for cell phone needs. I've been a phonewhore for some years now and that's where I've got my wealth of information. Although i'm not really a sony ericsson guy, i've learned a lot nokia-wise from them.

Anyone know where I can get a K510 for cheap? Or if any of you have one for sale?

The k800i is a GREAT phone.
There's just a couple of things that are driving me up the wall (coming from Siemens):
1) The softkeys are ****ing Windows standard - "OK" and "Continue" on the left, "Cancel" or "Options" on the right. Mostly I'll live, though it's annoying.
2) Inconsistent softkey addressing: pressing the joystick as "Enter" will always select the left softkey ("OK" or "Continue"), except when it won't: at the desktop level, for example, it will take you to the main menu, which is the equivalent of the RIGHT softkey. WTF, Sony?
3) No way to designate a ringtone for anybody NOT in the address book (other than creating a new group and adding all 600 contacts to it - by hand. There IS NO "Select all" function that I've found). I loved the fact that with my Siemens I could tell from the ringtone if I knew the person or not. Not a life-saver, but very useful.
4) No groups syncing with Address Book. Do any phones do this?
5) T9 space, delete, confirm custom text entry, punctuation, and caps mode keys are all pretty much exactly opposite from where they were on the Siemens. Having the space key at lower right is a pain for a right-handed person like me, but that's mostly just habit, I realize.
6) Another minor niggle: can't change ringtones for anything except incoming call, incoming SMS, and alarm. Probably because of the branding (it's O2 Germany).
Other than that, I love this phone. It's fast; fast enough that it's a no-brainer to pull it out, whip open the lens cover, and take a quick snapshot. This one is actually *useful* as a digital camera. And it's synced automatically with iPhoto as soon as you hook it up via USB.
I really don't mind the size at all, either.

The K800i is too large, the W810i is too ugly. The K610i has a too high SAR value and a cheap plastic look.
So I have decided to convert my contract to a card only contract without a phone. No base fee any more! No minimum contract term! And I just keep using my T610 which is the best phone ever (if only the camera would not be total crap). I'm happy. And in the long run I'm better off just buying a new phone myself. Example:
10 € base fee * 24 months + "free" K610i = 240 €
K610i at Amazon.de = 225 €
10 € base fee * 24 months + 149 € for K800i = 389 €
K800i at Amazon.de = 339 €
Let's hope Sony Ericsson make a phone of the size of the T610 and with such an elegant design soon, that also features a decent 2 MP camera.

I've got the 790 and I love it. The toys (camera, radio, mp3 player) all work well enough to be actually usable. The 3.2 mp camera is high quality for a phone cam.

What?
Have you ever even seen one up close?
It's metal. The red one is truly a thing of beauty.

Yes, I did. It's plastic ("Kunststoff"). And it looks kind of cheap although the joystick leaves a much better impression than that of the K800i. That phone's joystick looks like it's going to break even sooner than that of my K700i (which luckily I got misappropriated). The K610i and K800i are probably the best phones on the market currently, but I don't think they are good enough. So I'm happy (and feel relieved) that I'm in the 0€ base fee contract now. As soon as there is something as good as the T68i and the T610 I will purchase one myself. And without the carrier branding.
