So, I get this email about "sharing your life with .Mac". That's great, but I keep thinking that my life isn't nearly as interesting as the pictures they use. Oh, sure, they're all posed and all, but has anyone out there made a blog/moblog that's even remotely as interesting or attractive as Apple would allow you to believe you could do?

Plus, who wants to put pics of yourself on the net for all the word stalkers to see?

My life is so glamourous, I post here.

Perhaps I should start a blog about the posts I post here.

I just got my Leica, so ill be taking pictures and stuff.... on my days off i go sufing. i can talk about it for hours, but doubt anyone would want to read it

.Mac, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband, Photobooth etc. all seem to be geared towards people with disposable incomes who take 500 trips a year, have 400 family reunions a year, or a garage full of instruments. No, my life isn't this interesting, perhaps it could be if I won the lottery, or take my camera to the various bars I visit, but I don't.

Or perhaps I'm just not a fun and hip person. Oh well.

Its all a part of the selling machine. They make those people look like they lead really fun and interesting lives so that when people go to Apple's site they see that and say "Wow, I want to live like that! Sign me up!" No one really says that, but its a subconscious thing. Make people have a notion that if they use your product their lives will be better.

Nobody's life is that interesting, but people just want to do that kind of stuff with their computers these days.

Apple is very good at marketing, remember?

Making people feel that they need XXX product in order to enrich their life is a key marketing tactic.

Don't be fooled. Enjoy the life you have!

My life consists of working, and basically playing my guitar.

Atleast the parts I can talk about.

My life is TWICE as interesting. Wish I could find the time to post all of my pictures on my iWeb site and document each thrilling day on my blog!!! It would be an instant success... I'd make millions from the google ad revenues.

Seriously, I thought of you two right away when I read the thread title.

You're living the (Apple) dream.

My life is so interesting I need a break! But it's only interesting to a select group of people, none of whom have time to check in on how my life is going online. They're (like me) busy LIVING instead of surfing.

Haha. I've thought about this before. iLife is great, but I've only used it the way it's show on Apple.com maybe twice, and these were after big vacations. Definitely not a day-to-day thing. Then again if I took pictures as good as the ones they put in iPhoto, well...I wouldn't be using iPhoto to manage my pictures.

Nope. Maybe Apple needs to post more screenshots of Safari at MacNN, then it will be more accurate.

Your life doesn't have to be interesting for your family and friends to want to see pictures of it.

that's true. but apple makes it seem like we are all 25, sveltely built, dressed in black, looking very BR (banana republic), and always doing important, trendy, and ground-breaking things on our computers.

most of the time i am just surfing, banking, and chatting ... like the rest of america i guess.

My homework is important and groundbreaking. But I don't dress in black all the time, I'm not 25, and trendy is usually a synonym for "soon to be obsolete" so I avoid that. But I do hang out with bright, interesting people with innovative ideas. They're called "classmates."

Another thing - does anyone feel that posting pictures of your friends on the 'net without their permission is wrong, or is the assumption nowadays that every picture taken will show up on the net?

I don't think I'm doing too badly I haven't updated for a while but there's been good stuff going on. I'm busy planning a drive round the Mediterranean, applying to Post Grad courses and learning journalists' shorthand at the moment... I'm also researching for a book I might write about driving round the Med... Goddamit I'm busy, I don't have time to post here!

I even did a blog this summer, as I was doing something interesting
'Old Gregorian' Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela
The problem with most blogs is that people don't have anything interesting to say!

In reply to starman - the main reason I keep a website is to share pictures with the friends that are in them. I think they'd be disappointed if they didn't get copies.

True, I do too, but I just don't publish the URLs publically.

If I've been to the places that Steve usually takes his iPhoto demo pictures at, does that count?

Interesting. Too bad I don't have time to make a clever reply to your post.

No, really, this has nothing to do with me drawing a blank here.

None, whatsoever.
