I grew up in Flat Rock. Nice little town, which is no longer quite so little, and no longer "townish" at all. My sister lives in Monroe, and my dad in Newport.

I haven't "lived" there since 19##, but I often miss the change of seasons-and how spring and fall are actual "seasons," not a week or so like they tend to be here in San Antonio.

scottiB, just where "south of Detroit" did you grow up?

Living in Durand. Graduated from high school here too.

I moved from Owosso a few years ago. I lived near the corner of N. Saginaw and King streets. Nice area, not very pretentious. You going to Baker now?

Say ya to da UP, eh?

All right, I spent 2.5 years in Detroit then one in Ann Arbor. Both interesting cities on their own account. Caught the hockey/Red Wings bug there.

Native Michigander here. Lived on Long Lake near Traverse City when young, then moved to Allen Park (Detroit suburb). Haven't lived in Michigan since 1992. Just as ghporter, I do miss the seasons. We have two seasons in the Caribbean. Rainy and not rainy. I have fond memories of going "up north" on the weekends. My brother and his wife just spent the weekend on Mackinac Island. I do miss it...

Geez, it is a small world! Applegate and Peck are somewhat remote and it surprised me someone actually knows about them. I'm going home Thanksgiving week and it'll be nice to be out of the city--it's so quiet there.

I live about an hour south of the Michigan line in Indiana but I am originally from Jackson, MI.

I'm in Garden City (sorta between Detroit and Ann Arbor). Quiet little suburbia with a lot of 7-11s. I left Michigan and lived in Reno for 8 months, then came back. I think most do.

Trenton--just a few miles north of you in Flat Rock. My father used to work for Ford at the Michigan Casting Center (now part of the Mazda complex).

Cool! I did almost all my running around as a kid in the Downriver area between say Dearborn and Monroe, so Trenton was a big part of my "home range."

Born and raised in Okemos/E. Lansing/Lansing. Left for 5 years to serve my country in Colorado Springs, CO. came back afterwards. I now live in Lansing, east side to be exact. My wife is from Haslett, and has lived here her entire life.

I stopped into Castle Photo today near Frandor to check out Canon DSLRs. Nice little shop and the owner certainly knew his stuff.

Five years in the 'Springs? How'd you manage that? I've been there once and fell in love with it but had to come back to San Antonio to avoid that pesky AWOL business...

I loved San Antonio. I did my advanced training there. I would have loved to been able to stay there instead of heading to the Springs. Awesome mountain biking there, but ehhh, that is about it for me. I didn't much care for it.

Ideally I'd be able to go back and forth at will. There is NO SKIING in San Antonio. But that also means that there is often too much snow in Colorado Springs... I didn't' move back to Michigan because I now have a allergy to snow shovels, so you can see that dilemma. There are a lot of great things about SA, but there are a lot of great things in the Springs, too. Sigh.

BTW, what "advanced training" did you do here, and with whom? I spent almost all of the last 10 years of my career at Lackland (one year, '99-2000, was in Honduras), and a lot of that was involved directly with training.

With all this feedback, sounds like we need to organize a pow wow in EL or some of of the new bars in in downtown Lansing.

My advanced training was at Ft. Sam Houston for about 10 months or so. As you may know, Ft. Sam is mainly medical training, or was when I was there, things may have changed. I was enlisted as a 91Q - Pharmacy Specialist, and the training takes place there. I know that they have built a new hospital to replace the very old Brooke Army Medical Center. I think it is out by the highway if I remember correctly.

After leaving SA to head to Ft. Carson, I had to come back about 1.5 years later to complete a Sterile Intravenous Medication Preparation course for 2 weeks. I realized that I missed SA quite a bit. I would love to go back some day, take the wife on a little trip, show her a good time down on the Riverwalk.

Do you have an airport card sled by any chance? not the card itself, but that little sled doo-hickey you need to plug it into a G3 imac or similar?

and how did buffalo wild wings get to be called BW3s? where is the 3rd W?

i'm confused

all of them that i have been (3 in michigan, 1 in florida), taps include: bud, bud light, miller lite, labbat blue, heineken, blue moon, guiness, bass, a couple other nationals and then 2 or 3 locals; like in michigan they all have had bells (some have had 2 kinds).

E. Lansing is about as central as you can get that's worth going to.

Quite a few beers on tap and everything liquor-wise. Most major piss-beer and more than a few good local brews. And there's always a few Bell's on tap.

Plus there's a number of awesome bars to hop to from there.
