Bob Barker retiring from 'The Price is Right'

"I will be 83 years old on Dec. 12," he said, "and I've decided to retire while I'm still young."

They're looking for a new host. Who do you think would do a good job or not?

I'm still thinking...

I always knew this day would come, but I figured it would be when he died. The guy seems immortal.

Wow, I never thought he'd willingly retire while he was still alive. I'm gonna agree with cakey though... no one can replace Bob. End the show.

The price is righ is too old now anyway, surely there are better gameshows out there?

[Bob Barker] said he'd take on a movie role if the right one came along, but filmmakers, take note: "I refuse to do nude scenes. These Hollywood producers want to capitalize on my obvious sexuality, but I don't want to be just another beautiful body."
That was one mental image I didn't need...

That show is so lame and so dated it needs to die anyway.
"Altruism is killing America. We who want to save America must repudiate this killer, root and branch. We must understand and explain to others that the acceptance of altruism necessitates the violation of individual rights... and that the arguments for altruism are baseless..."

A few more have shown interest in taking over as the new host; however, they demand the show change it's name as well...

In all seriousness, CBS will never let the show die gracefully, because it makes too much money and is a cultural icon. But whoever they tap to run the show will need to look at this as a long-term project, the final goal of their career, because if the show starts changing hosts every few years it's through, because the people who watch daytime TV love consistency.

I think the perfect host would be someone so over-the-top and self-inportant that he would welcome the ability to "change people's lives" by doling out money to them, and would get into all the games they use as a vehicle for giving away money. Which is why I think Shatner would be perfect! He probably has no other ambitions in his career right now. Plus, if they hook him up with the same Cyborg specialists that kept Bob Barker going for so long, he could do the show until he's 100!

I mean, come on, can't you just hear Shatner saying something like this:

[Bob Barker] said he'd take on a movie role if the right one came along, but filmmakers, take note: "I refuse to do nude scenes. These Hollywood producers want to capitalize on my obvious sexuality, but I don't want to be just another beautiful body."

Anybody but Bob "hey, that's a nice rack-wanna keep your job" Barker would be a Good Thing™ in my book. Let's remember that, aside from his "animal rights" activities, Bob's been in court quite a bit because of how he treated a number of his "eye candy" onstage assistants...

Billy Crystal.

He's annoying enough but in a good way, and would probably boost ratings.

Granted, these are big shoes to fill.

Um, that title could work for Seven of Nine, too.

Though I suppose the show would be called, "The Price is Irrelevant. You will be assimilated," in that case.

Shatner would probably be able to fill in there, too.

There's enough conflicting information about this particular "facet" of old Bill's personality that I think the negative reports about him are more misunderstanding or something like it rather than his actually being as womanizing as those reports suggest.

But he's got other stuff going on now (notice the Emmys he's won?) so he's probably not available.

The long time host of the popular game show Super Market Sweep would be a great successor to Bob Barker on the Price is Right. Super Market Sweep was popular with audience of all ages as is the Price is Right. The audience would take well to the transition. Ruprecht has been hosting the show with great success on stage in Atlantic City. Audiences would feel comfortable with him. So, David Ruprecht come on down! You're the next host on The Price is Right!

I have heard Rosie O'donnell say that her dream job would be to host The Price.. and guess what several weeks later she has that opportunity. So I am betting she will be anounced as the new host very soon!
