The operative word in my post is "gay". The passage you quote does not explain why meth has come to be identified so strongly with the *gay* community. The Wiki article's suggestion that people with same-sex desires are more likely to need meth to dissolve their inhibitions doesn't stand to reason in "sexually-charged environments like dance parties, saunas and sex clubs" where inhibitions are not usually a problem. Besides, straight people have inhibitions too.

Oh, BTW meth is a much larger issue in the 'straight' community, FYI. Who takes wikipedia as fact anyways?

Luckily I don't know anyone personally who does meth. But I do know cocaine, E, and K are much larger problems than meth use in the bar scenes around here.

Gay relationships have been illegitimate for so many years that a culture has developed around gay men that emphasizes temporary sexual hookups. Also, a lot of gays have been repressed for a long time and so a drug that releases inhibitions is attractive to some of them even in a situation like a sauna or a sex club. As gays obtain more civil rights and are able to have open legitimate relationships, I think that the culture the emphasizes sex will diminish a bit. This is all my opinion.

Not all gay men take meth and in fact most don't. In case you haven't noticed there is a lot of drug abuse going on in the country as whole.
