Hi.

Everyone says that, but, does it really change the sound recording your voice onto a tape?

Your voice sounds different to you on tape but it sounds the same to everyone else whether live or on tape. When you hear yourself talk you are hearing it partly through your ears but mostly through your skull--the vibrations from your vocal tract get transmitted internally to the ear's sound-processing apparatus (cochlea) in the middle ear. So, the sound of your voice does not get modified by moving through space, in/around the outer ear, and into the ear canal before being processed by your brain. That's how everyone else hears your voice--from outside the skull--so it always sound the same to them whether live or on tape.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Haha. Exactly. That's also why I hate watching myself in videos my family has made.

Dude, you're like 13 or something? You're supposed to squeal like a girl at that age.
Don't worry - you'll be sounding like Barry White in no time.

I think my ex college does, at least for GCSE language recordings, not sure if they've switched to something else for music recording.

Voice recorders add 10 pounds to your voice.

The voice that I hear when I talk sounds soothing, rich and hypnotic. When I hear my recorded voice I sound like the king of the dorks. Although others (women) tell me I have a pleasant voice. I'll just take their word for it.

I think some people do sound different recorded, for whatever reason. For instance, my sister always sounds to me like she has a high-pitched voice, but whenever she leaves a message on my voicemail, it takes me a minute to figure out who it is because her voice sounds deep there.

I can't believe that there are still people that don't know that you hear yourself differently than you sound to everybody else. Just assumed that was common knowledge

Well some people have a 'phone voice.' I notice that occasionally people speak differently when they're on the phone, and it also changes depending on the person. I can ALWAYS tell when one of my coworkers says 'hello' to his wife on the phone, his voice and tone are completely different than usual. And I heard a friend of mine talking on her radio (she's a dispatcher) and her radio voice was completely different and whiney, and she would go right into and out of it depending on who she was talking to.

I tried calling a friend from online the other week end, and when i didn't leave a message they asked why, and I was like well the thing is I sound awful recorded. When I know I'm being recorded I start sounding way more slow and intentional... I just get flustered I don't know why. So I sound like a freaking idiot.
