I know there are some people in here that like this kind of stuff, but I really don't, and I feel that it cheapens the art of animation.

The trend of illegitimate animation starts with "A Scanner Darkly", and continued with "Renaissance". They are not animation as much as Technicolor is not color.

I won't "Netflix" it. Probably some other soul will enjoy it better than me.

People that spent zillions of hours making these movies were hoping you'd enjoy their art.

Guess not. Thankfully for them, I do. Especially A Scanner Darkly.

Is this a "Grinds my Gears" thread? You're always huffin' and puffin' about somethin!

"Waking Life" started the current interest in rotoscoping. Waking Life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

I think the style would make for a good comic book (or graphic novel), but otherwise, meh.

Waking life was hard to watch in the theater. The trailers I saw of A Scanner Darkly looked much more watchable.

Plus, there are those ads for some financial services company that uses the same technique. EDIT: Charles Schwab. er... Chuck.

Earthlink used it a few years ago and there was talk of a lawsuit between Bob Sabiston (guy behind rotoshop, waking life, scanner darkly, et al) and Earthlink over it.

it's just another form of entertainment. there's still an art to it. and i don't think the creators want to replace animation in it's 2D or 3D forms. what's wrong with one more option?

oh, and i wish the program they used, Rotoshop, was available to the public. because doing all that rotoscoping in Shake (which i've done before) would take FOREVER.
