Woo. I didn't think it would work but I had a little hope, since Crossover supports a few 3D games. Here is PCSX2 running under CrossOver (temporary free beta). The console reports a 2GHz machine, so it MIGHT have no performance hit. I am going to rent a PS2 game to test it.

Unfortunately very few games run at all in that emulator, and even fewer run at a playable speed.

Reported CPU running through WINE probably doesn't mean too much. It found SSE, SSE2, SSE3, and MMX, so that is fine. Also, Wine Is Not an Emulator. There is not a performance hit. The trick is running anything in the first place. I don't trust an emulator running through WINE very much. I'd rather have a port. Actually, I'd rather have a PS2.

Not after someone else has posted in the topic, no.

Is Crossover commercial or freeware? Anyway, I'd like a PS2 Emulator, or even just a PSone emulator.

It's commercial, but there's a free public beta for like a month or two or something.

Surely someone's figured out a PS1 emulator by now? Considering Connectrix had that one which ran on iMac G3s under OS9?

Connectix, not Connectrix. I still have that disc. It works great.

Virtual Game Station, I have that one, too.

I broke mine. Did it run under classic? It used to always screw up FF5 for me.

emulation.net

Disclaimer: I have never used any of these emulators and have no idea whether they work well or not.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

The Connectix Virtual Game Station worked fairly well, Except with the more 3d intensive stuff.

It's not the PC virtualisation (Crossover) that will cause problems, it's the PS2 emulator, which even on a high spec Windows PC it ain't to hot.
Remember a game 'running' and being 'playable' are two completely different things.

Such as what? I ran gran turismo, metal gear, driver, and tons of other games on it. It ran perfectly fine.

Yep, and if you search hard enough out there, there's an early-ish Universal build floating around. Works pretty well; I was just playing MGS on it the other day, actually.

Maybe the newer builds of the PS2 emulator have got better? Will give it a go with Burnout 3. Or where you talking about the PS1 emulator?

How did you get it to select a sound plugin? My List comes up blank, and I get an error when OK'ing the config window?

There are lots of PS1 emulators to be found for many systems (I run one on my XBox).

PS2 emulators… those are still very early is developent compaired to PS1.

Think of it this way, the more recent the system the less likely it will be emulated any time soon.

Where as emulators for this 10 years old and more or such have nearly perfect emulators

It also has to do with how complicated consoles are becoming, but still. Give it time!
