For Nintendo Wii owners-- I thought it would be nice to create a specific thread to trade Wii Numbers in order to have our Miis visit each other. If you don't want to reveal your Wii Number to everyone, you could simply post in the thread to let others know, and trade numbers via PM, which is what I'm doing.

"Mii?"

Is that what the Wii's "identity number or code" is called?

Lame.

So I have a Mii. Where do I get his number for trading? I just got my Wii yesterday and haven't spent too much time with it yet.

So what does "Wii" mean anyways? I've never bothered to find that out.

I'm assuming "Mii" is a cute little play off of "Wii" and used as a term to describe the player, and "Wii" is used to describe the system. But I don't know what "Wii" means.

Help me!

"Wii" means "Wii."

I guess it's supposed to be "cute." Sounds to me like "Wii Wii" if you ask me.

EDIT: Seems to me it was more a case of wanting to pick a memorable name to distinguish them from the competition more than anything.

Nintendo Exec 1: Well, how are we going to compete with the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360?

Exec 2: Give it a stupid, but memorable name?

Exec 1: Sounds good. So what do we use?

Exec 2: I don't know, but can we wrap this meeting up? I have to go wee.

Exec 1: That's it!! We'll call it the "wee," only we'll change the spelling to make it cute. Wii.

In address book in the message board your Wii's number should be displayed.

I believe that I added you on my address book. What's the next step? I tried to get on to 'Wii Friend', then it said 'You have no registered any Wii Friends. You can register Wii Friends on the Wii Message Board.

It has to be mutual.

I'm not even sure it works yet. Maybe it's on hold like the weather and news channels. I haven't been reading much about it. Too busy aching from Wii Sports and playing Zelda while I recover.

Also, it warms my heart to see that 6 months isn't enough time for some peoples brains to get used to the name or for them to have gotten all their idiotic comments and "jokes" about it out of their system. What excellent use of irrelevant blather.

Yes, you're right, it has to be mutual, but it is definitely working, as I was able to trade Miis with a friend. We tried so many things though, that I forget the exact steps we did to make it work... I'm sure I'll figure it out again, though.

I actually don't think the name is bad at all... it's all about target audience.

I find it funny that so many people are bashing the Wii when the PS3 is selling for over 3x-4x more...

I'm actually considering a Wii... and I've never owned a console.

Glad you got it! And yeah, that's pretty neat. It'll flash for messages and supposedly any "goodies" Nintendo has seen fit to sneak into your Wii at night, though I guess we won't know for sure until the service goes fully online.

Sorry, it's a silly name. I'm not hating on the system or anything, but the name is definitely funny. It's like if Microsoft decided to name Vista's successor "PeenOS."

Sure, it's a little funny-sounding, but I really don't understand the connection to penis or pee. I've never heard someone refer to his stuff as his "Wii" or any phonetically sounding word, nor have I head the word in relation to relieving one's self. I've heard people say "I'm gonna take a whiz", but never I'm going to "wii" or the like.

If anything, "Wee" means small and that connection makes sense-- the Wii is the smallest out of all the current-gen (and last gen and conceivably out of all) consoles. And "Weee!" is an expression of fun and joy that children and less often, adults make. "We" refers to people in plural, including the speaker, which also makes sense, considering the emphasis Nintendo is making on the potential social nature of the system and its games.

So, yeah, it's funny-sounding, but I certainly don't see this hilarious connection people are making and how hung up people are on the name. Seriously, does it even matter what the console was named? Geez.

Well, that explains why you don't find it funny. For somebody who has been hearing that all his life, it takes a bit more than six months not to giggle at somebody saying, "I'm going to go play with my Wii."

But no, it isn't really important. It's just funny.

Strangely enough....... i like people making fun of the names "Wii" or "Mii". it's just....funny....good times.

I'd take this humor over the nerds debating about the number of cores, Ghz, RAM, speeds, polygons, resolutions etc.... any day. im so over that sub culture right now.

It's a funny name...i hope the humor doesnt die.

Cheers

Hmm. I don't see how those two are at odds or mutually exclusive. I don't mind some technical debate, but at least my friends and me like to make jokes and talk about other things too. I know what you mean about some people, however I don't see that it has to do with "Wii humor".

Regardless, once the name becomes commonplace, most will get used to it and "humor" will go away, except for those who are still laughing every time someone says "come".

Not to worry, Hawkeye, I'm sure you and everybody else will be able to find humor in other new things.

Don't get me wrong, I've taken a shot or two at the name before. Probably will again from time to time for the foreseeable future. But it's not anywhere near worth hijacking a legitimate thread over. Especially no longer.

Does adding someone else's Mii do anything? Can you bowl against them or anything cool? I keep hearing that Nintendo hasn't released the online play APIs yet. Any idea when this is supposed to occur? It seems like we would still have a long wait for any online games once they release the API.

I made a few extra Miis on my Wii and noticed that they showed up in the lineup in baseball. If you add a friend's Wii do they also show up in the lineup?

Yup, they will be in most sports games also. In bowling they will watch you play. Any other game from other companies than Nintendo can use Mii API to use Miis into their games which should be really cool.

What they introduced right now for Mii is only a beginning. When Multiplayer Online Gaming is added to future games, we will see even more values in Miis.
