We'll be eating like maniacs tomorrow – and I'm REALLY looking forward to it. I swear, my Mom could make a turd taste like the greatest thing on earth if she wanted to.

Happy Thanksgiving and let me say that I'm truly thankful this year because of the birth of my twin girls (they're turning 11 months).

If the Pilgrims had killed a cat instead of a turkey, we'd all be eating pussy today.

Lame joke, I know.

Well then maybe she'll make them taste better today, for the sake of Thanksgiving and all...

In the UK, we always get to hear that it's time for Thanksgiving for our friends in America, but we know little about its origins... For the benefit of those in others countries - What's Thanksgiving all about?

Happy Thanksgiving to all the people over the pond!

Some displaced English folk, who dressed up like the Quaker Oats guy, got crocked off their rocker, killed some turkeys and had the native people over to party before they offed them and took their land.

Then the next day, the Quaker Oats folk went shopping.

In all actuality, though, what we celebrate today was made up from some woman editor of a ladies magazine.

Thanksgiving is one of 3 things:

1. A legal holiday where people don't have to work, which is a cause for celebration in itself

2. A sham holiday created to mark the beginning of the "shopping season"

3. A celebration of an event that may possibly happened but not the way that it is currently glorified (pilgrims and native americans chillin' up in the grim's hood up in autumn back in the day)

It probably never happened, but in theory, Thanksgiving is the celebration of a bunch of old snotty Brits getting kicked out of England for being too crazy-religious. They came to America, made friends with natives, and had dinner. Yeah, that's the entire story. But hey, it means an excuse to eat a very large quantity of food and to get a four-day weekend. Score!

PS, happy Thanksgiving!

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

Very sunny and pleasant here in the snow belt (also no snow yet). What rain?

Happy Thanksgiving to all, even those who don't officially celebrate the holiday. A good time to reflect on what we are thankful for.

A few old, possible, events merging in to one big round of eating and boozing? - Sounds just like Christmas We should have it over here.

Have fun everyone. Thanks for the replies.

I like to reflect on what I'm thankful for on a daily basis. But my family also manages to put on a nice feed once in a while too. Today though, our son had his Thanksgiving dinner with his girlfriend's family, and we had a nice time at a very nice restaurant with our best friends.

Unfortunately, the lady half of our best friends works retail, as does our son, so tomorrow isn't going to be particularly festive for them. I've never figured out why everyone has to go shop their guts out on the day after Thanksgiving... I don't like to go to grocery stores on that day!

My parents would have shot me if I had been anywhere but with my family for turkey day.

The kid's 19 and they're "serious." We think of this as being an opportunity for him to show his sterling character with her family.

And I have plenty of other things to shoot him over anyway, so we gave him a pass on this one.

I'm thankful that my sig other is safe at her parents with me after a week in the ICu and 2 more weeks in the hospital. We are hoping for happier times and many more days, weeks, months and years together.

Thanks to life and say thanks that your own family is with you.

I remember being "serious". That wasn't all that long ago. I was lucky enough that my family has their thanksgiving so early it is almost lunch.
