For quite some time I have been wondering about how to properly dispose of, or preferably recycle, aerosol cans. I really hate having to throw the damn things out in the trash because of the waste - must not there be a better way? Most of the aersol cans I buy are deoderants. They do not bear any recycling symbols; curbside recycling pickup lists do not mention anying on the subject. What's the responsible thing to do?

Here they take them in the regular recycling bin. You just have to empty them by turning the can upside down and holding the spray nozzle in until all of the pressure is released. Maybe your community just does aluminum. Mine does aluminum and steel cans.

If it's not aluminum cans you are actually wasting energy by recycling.

I leave them in front of my neighbor's door, then ring the bell and run.
actually, I don't have any aerosol cans to throw out, just the manual plastic pump containers (that get recycled)

As for the charred or crushed remains? Dumpster or trash can. Hell, if everybody is bent on ruining the environment, I wanna be on the winning team.

Aerosol cans are pretty much bad for the environment no matter how you dispose of them. >shrug<

Um... NOT buy aerosol deodorents. That'd be the most ecologically responsible thing to do.

You waste money using spray deodorants too as most of it is lost in the air. The most sensible thing is to buy stick deodorant.
