Have they ever given any deep discount on Black Friday? Any discounts worth waking up at 3AM for, and stepping on your fellow iPod hipster? Has anyone ever gone to the "Special One-Day Shopping Event" and leave disappointed?

Yeah, Apple already sells at razor-thin markups on their gear. You actually want them to lose money on cutting their prices even more?

IIRC, last year they had $50 off an iSight, slight markdowns on some other third party gear, and discounts on iPods/Macs that were similar or exactly the same as the education / corporate EPP discounts they usually offer. So, no, nothing worth trying to park at the mall.

Don't count on it. Unless you think 10% off is an amazing deal. Personally, I'd rather shop without the crowds and spend the extra 10%.

I thought their markups were pretty fat.

Same as last year, more or less.
iMac: $898-$1958
MacBook: $998-$1398
.Mac: $68
iPod Nano (except Reds): $138-$228
iPod: $228-$318
Wireless Mighty Mouse: $58
Shure earphones: $78-$238
Contour iPod Cases: $14-$24
Belkin TuneBase FM: $58
JBL On Stage Micro: $78
JBL Spot Speakers: $108
LaCie Hard Drives: $148-$888
Incase Sling Pack: $48
Xtreme Mac Micro Memo Voice Recorder: $48

A discount is a discount. It's better than nothing.
I noticed that company discounts are also discounted. Has anyone checked the education prices?

Seems they left the MBP off the sale list. It was part of the sale last year as I recall. Maybe there will be a bigger sale later.
My brother and I were thinking last night about getting up early to get a $250 Toshiba laptop advertised at Best Buy. Yes, it had the cheapest celeron 1.6 processor but had a 15.4 inch screen and built in wireless. Thought it might make a usable back-up computer for my MBP but we were too lazy to drive there at 4am.

It's interesting to see that we in Canada are getting some of these Black Friday Mac deals too, despite the fact that we don't have Black Friday sales at all. (Our big sale day is Boxing Day, which is Dec. 26.)

Education prices seem unchanged. The MacBook is $1049 in education, $998 in the consumer store.

Do Canadian Chrsitians postpone Christmas 'til after the 26th then?

Heh. Nah, they just get bilked for Xmas gifts.
Actually, there are ongoing sales during the Xmas runup, but they are all store specific.
The everything-everywhere-goes-on-sale-day is Dec. 26 (or Dec. 26 in some areas).

So if they offer this again this year, can I buy and use it even though I am already a .mac subscriber? Mine renews every July, but I'd sure like to buy it at a discount. And if the answer is yes, how do you use it?
