I recently found that someone on flickr had taken a photography in Outremont (some people call it Little Israel), where I've lived for 19 years and where I work...

Is it anti-semitic? I find it rather funny because the guy has a joking face. Lol.

No, not take the picture. That's photojournalism in some kind of way.

I mean, the graffiti, man.

yeah... if people go too fast in streets where children play or where there's a school, they will sometimes use this as a last resort.

it's common in "ruelles" (backstreets) tho.

I think the lolling tongue makes it anti-Semitic. Without that it would be cool.

But if it somehow portrayed Muhammed, people would be dead by now from riots.

Instead we'll agonize over whether a smiley face is offensive or not. Different levels of reaction, same stupidity.

Not the same - you're non-orthodox Jews, quibbling over whether a Jew would find it offensive, whereas the Mohammed pictures, no one quibbled, and the Muslims who rioted found it offensive.

Not the same, because of outsider / insider.

I would suggest, not anti-semitic. It's not anything more than an attempt at fun.

I find that outrageous...ly funny I don't see how could anynone find that drawing anti-semitic or derogatory... I mean, it's merely a graphical representation, it's not like there's a big X on it, or a bad joke written beside it. To be "anti"-something, there need to be anything against it...
Merriam-Webster
Anti-semitism: hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group
No hostility = no anti-semitism. The best example I can find is when people see something vaguely ressembling Micky Mouse's ears, they draw a Mickey out of it. It doesn't mean that they are against Mr Mouse, it just says that they have a good imagination ability...

Regarding those darned speed bump, they would be OK if only they let you drive at the posted speed limit. If the sign says "Max: 50 km/h", I expect to be able to drive up to that speed. But if you hit a speed bump at 50 (or even 30), you're going to cause major damage to your suspension, wheels and maybe your bumper too..

No, doesn't appear to be antisemitic. However, It is my understanding that Quebec was a hotbed of Jew-hatred at one point - my father was born in Montreal and told me of Quebec.

To me, it seems to mean something like "Be careful not to run over the Jews around here."

Wasn't everywhere where Jews have ever existed, at some point?

No, I don't think that's the case.

That'd probably make it pro-Muslim if anything. Because IIRC most "semitic" people (don't know the correct term in English) are Muslim.

And one things for sure. If it's pro-Muslim it has to be anti-Jewish...... or something like that.

I don't think so, although I'm sure there are people who claim it is.

Muslims and Jews have the same religious roots anyway if you go far enough back.

I don't want to derail this non-PL thread, but let's just correct that statement: Judaism is the faith from which Christianty and Islam came. And the Torah predates the Koran by around 2000 years.

Head into Quebec City and not speak fluent French and be prepared to be spit on continuously. Even if you speak broken French, expect a loogie aimed in your general direction.

This article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semite

says that it is a set of languages. I don't know how well it applies to people, neccessarily. It seems to be a commonly misapplied word. In the common American lexicon, semitic is understood to mean Jewish people. I hear it most often in the context of someone being anti-semitic.

Antisemitism (alternatively spelled anti-semitism or anti-Semitism) is hostility toward or prejudice against Jews as a religious or ethnic group, which can range in expression from individual hatred to institutionalized, violent persecution.
