Hi.

I need a good web host, which has WebDAV enabled..
I searched, nothing came up.
I don't need masses of storage. 50mb or 100mb would be enough. It would be good if it was a annual fee aswell...

Any info is good, thanks,

Well, if you can find hosting for $10 US/month, how much will a month's worth of electricity cost? You could just pay for the machine's electricity...

ICDSoft.com - The Ultimate in Web Hosting

$6/month which you pay yearly.

Excellent service. Every year it gets better and the price usually drops a little bit.

no..

because, if i get a service that is cheap, with only 50 or 100mb, it wont cost that much.

my last one cost £16 for the whole year. i would like something like that, but with WebDAV.

last time i used z-host

I doubt you'll find cheaper than $6/month. At least anything worth using.

You're looking for something cheaper than $6/month? That's like £3.15 a month.

Man oh man are you gonna have a shock when you try for that rented room in student digs in a couple of years' time.

No one offers only 50 MB of hosting because you are about the only person on earth who wants it.

Spymac sucks. Service sucks, uptime sucks.

Enabling WebDAV on Apache opens up all sorts of security holes. You'll be hard pressed to find a host that will enable WebDAV on shared hosting because of this.

He said Spymac.

Sorry, I tried it for a while, when they offered a free beta with their change last year. The change that was supposed to take 3 days took like 6 weeks. Can't take that serious.

You don't know jack. Many shared hosting providers offer it, just not for a $ 2 per month.

ok.. maybe i'll just use my previous host.

i wanted WebDAV because of the drag-and-drop ability in the Finder, but i might aswell use cyberduck with FTP on my old host.

No-one forces you to take them serious.
I got WebDAV for 2$/month, 3GB of storage space and wonderful easy drag and drop in the finder.
The Uptime may suck but so far it has only been down about 3 days in 2006 - good enough for me!
It's private, I don't do any business there and I would never recommend it for business either!

Since you're no longer insisting on WebDAV, I'll recommend AwardSpace. 200MB of disc space, php and MySQL, free. I use it with Transmit, can't say I particularly miss Finder integration.

Any of these places do secure WebDAV?

I don't know why more people aren't troubled about sending their password in the clear. Do not use an important password or store data you care about in an account you can only access via FTP or WebDAV.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know about Spymac Hosting!
I meant the Spymac Club

Now THAT'S kind of weird! They charge more for hosting with less features???

I'm not an active club member - I only use the webspace because I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else (and I already used it when it was completely free)!

Instead of mucking around with a third-party provider, I still don't get why it would be difficult or undesirable to obtain some old hardware and run these services for yourself?

Surely the cost of electricity is less than the cost of paying this ISP? Is it a physical space issue for some? Nothing beats LAN performance...

A spare machine is an infinitely useful thing to have - for data backups, for testing, for running when your primary computer is down, for file storage, for running an iTunes share, etc.

Why not kill as many birds as you can with that same stone?

He's in the UK. That means he's probably only gonna get 256 kbps up and his family will become outcast if he doesn't switch everything electrical off 0.000003 milliseconds after he's finished using it.

yeah... electricity bills are high here, plus, as doofy said, yeah. i only get 256kbps upstream.

and, no, it isnt a space issue or anything, infact, i have my powermac running wordpress and so forth now.

i dont mind the speed, and its really handy, but its just that my mum doesnt like my mac kept on.

Just curious,

What are you useing this space for. 50MB is nothing, that will be full in no time. I might be barking up the wrong tree but how about a USB thumb drive those are really cheap, it can follow you any where.

real
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

i dont really know how much it would be to keep the sawtooth on 24/7.

Come to think of it, this is the perfect thing to post in the Marketplace forum. I'm not saying that you're out of line here, but many MacNN'ers can offer this sort of thing, it wouldn't be such a bad way to generate extra revenue.

I don't follow the logic.

So you can't trust anyone in the US ?

How about France ? Or Italy ? Or Wales ?
