Check out his PL forum works. My guess is he earned the infraction that broke the camels back in this thread.

I forgot to mention: my movies from Monday.
Final Fantasy looks and sounds AMAZING. Streets of Fire sounds ok but looks too dark. Maybe it was the original print? I haven't played Frighteners yet. I also picked up 300 on BR (not paying $5 more for a combo) and "Blue Planet/The Dream Is Alive" on BR.

I read the other day that the problem with Sony getting into the adult industry is that they can't replicate the discs where they press Disney films. Disney doesn't want any accidents. I think they sorted that all out.

It seems that Sony is now starting to get a clue.
However...
Apparently, Blu-ray is now the preferred medium for Japanese adult films.
Blu-ray had Japanese porn early on. The complainers were the American porn studios.

It may look and sound amazing, but I thought the movie was HORRIBLE. Saw it in the theater and could barely keep myself from walking out. I still crack up with my friends over the last line of the entire movie - "It's so ... warm!"
Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I guess.

I love it. So when HD-DVD has the porn industry, BluRay folks say it's no big deal because who wants HD porn with the internet availability. But when BD gets some Japanese porn, it's the end of HD-DVD. Hilarious.

I didn't either but I also thought the movie sucked. Looked real nice but all the "Mother earth and spirits" doesn't go over well in the west.
My friend was actually a lead animator on it when it first started and it was being made in Hawaii. Then a Japanese company bought it and fired everyone to replace them with Japanese folk.

I could give you examples of several Blu-ray burners and Toast 8.x as an example of software that will burn BD data disks. I already posted a link to their membership in the Blu-ray Disc association including a listing showing their board membership.
Apple offers rudimentary authoring (but not burning) support for HD DVD in FCP Studio's DVD Studio Pro because was easier to implement than for Blu-ray and because Blu-ray has been evolving as a standard.
Believe what you want but I'm tired of arguing with someone that cannot backup their claims with any proof.

Apple is already member of the DVD Forum, and has already officially stated they support both HD DVD and Blu-ray. ie. Straight from the horse's mouth. What more do you want?

You can burn HD DVDs on DVD media right from DVD Studio Pro. See here. These discs meet the official HD DVD spec. They just hold less data. The benefit though is that any recent Mac can play these HD DVDs right in DVD Player.app.
And it's not HD DVD's fault that Blu-ray couldn't get its act together in terms of standardization.
Believe what you want but I'm tired of arguing with someone that cannot backup their claims with any proof.
See above point. Perhaps you should revisit that statement, considering you too are making factually incorrect or misleading claims.

Os so it seems the ONLY 2 things HD fans are thinking that is making HD better is:
1) Price of stand alone players
2) Java picture in picture
What happens after october when BR has #2 and it won't be long before BR is just as cheap give or take $50.
What will make HD come out of the losing end and win then? Downloadable subtitles?

3) No Region Codes
4) Less DRM
5) Completed spec (my d2 will *ALWAYS* play HD-DVD movies, current-gen and last-gen BD players may not play future BD movies)
6) Full featured hardware

Yes, I think Apple leans toward the BR side, but nonetheless they officially support HD DVD and have more support in practice for HD DVD at this time than they do for Blu-ray.
The above former statement is conjecture (which I believe), but the latter statement is fact, despite the efforts here by some here to ignore that fact.
Interestingly though, when Sony came on stage at one Apple event, I think Jobs' statement was something to the effect that Apple was "looking forward to the hi-def formats" or something like that. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of either format, assuming my recollection is correct.

Yes they did and their logo is prominently displayed on the Blu-ray Disc Association website.
Apple has stated that they will provide software support for authoring both formats atleast in their pro apps but it remains to be seen which format burner will ship with future macs and whether they will provide support authoring support for both formats in iLife.
I seriously doubt they will support both formats for consumers since they will probably only support whichever burner type they ship in their iLife apps. Apple has a history of supporting only their built-in burners until only recently in iLife when they added third-party and image support.
I would assume that they will support one format as fully as possible (probably Blu-ray) and the other format will be supported for authoring only in pro apps.

I don't recall Apple stating in any keynote that they specifically preferred Blu-ray. A link would be appreciated.

What proof? Statements about continued support for HD DVD in DVD Studio Pro? As I have stated, HD DVD support for authoring would be relatively trival to add in addition to DVD authoring while BDMV would be a bit more involved.
DVD forum membership cannot be used as proof either because even Sony is a member of the DVD forum because both *gasp* support DVD authoring with their shipping hardware and consumer level apps.
Toshiba using the DVD Forum as a supposed proponent of HD DVD is, in my opinion dishonest because the format was development mostly by Toshiba alone and a small group of members and it is only being promoted by a small subset of the DVD forum in the form of the HD DVD promotional group. You will note that despite Toshiba's claims of it being a standard of the DVD forum, Apple and Sony are notably absent from any HD DVD boards or organizations.

Macworld: News: Apple joins Blu-ray Board of Directors
Apple's press release:
Blu-ray Disc Association Welcomes Apple to Its Board of Directors
Is that official enough for you?
BTW. Could you provide me a link to some HD DVD burning software of any kind for the mac? What about a HD DVD burner for sale to consumers for the mac?
*EDIT*
How would you expect Apple to implement authoring of the MSFT developed Interactive HD content?

If Apple did say they prefer Blu-ray, then OK, but nonetheless I'd like to hear the stream myself.
In the meantime I find it interesting that you so easily can ignore Apple's REAL support of HD DVD and saying it doesn't matter.
Apple's official position is that they support BOTH formats, and personally, I am inclined to believe them.
BTW. Could you provide me a link to some HD DVD burning software of any kind for the mac? What about a HD DVD burner for sale to consumers for the mac?
Why do you keep ignoring everyone's posts? DVD Studio Pro burns HD DVDs. Yes, it's on DVD media, but these are within the official HD DVD spec.
How would you expect Apple to implement authoring of the MSFT developed Interactive HD content?
Huh? Presumably the same way everyone else does. They'd licence it from the DVD Forum. Not that it matters for practical purposes considering you don't need it to produce an official HD DVD. They'd likely implement it later in their commercial software though, since they want DVD Studio Pro to be competitive with other commercial software.
P.S. Ironically, Disney helped develop that "MSFT developed Interactive HD".

I don't usually wear my moderator's hat when taking part in these discussions, but I think one of my duties is facilitating discussion, and this talk about Apple's position is not going anywhere. The same people are saying the same things they said weeks ago. Unless we hear something NEW about Apple's support for one format or another, can we just agree to leave that topic alone?

Well, I've said that I think Apple will go the combo player route. That said, if Bluray is so gosh darn important to Apple, why haven't they included Bluray players. I think more likely they're waiting for combo players to go down in price, and honestly, high def media probably is not all the important. They already have a movie distribution standard, the iTunes Movie Store. Yes, it's not high def, but high def sales will cut into the iTMS.
Apple has said publicly they will support both formats.
If Apple adds HD-DVD support to 10.5, again, it's a virtual guarantee they will be shipping HD-DVD compatible drives on machines. Apple doesn't code things for 3rd party hardware makers to use.

Right, it's pointless. I supplied a link to quotes from Steve Jobs himself concerning their announcement to joint the the Blu-ray association. I cannot give anything anymore official than that without being a top tier Apple employee. I have the distinct impression that HD DVD supporters would not even believe Steve Jobs if he came and posted here stating that iLife '08 would have Blu-ray support.
Everyone is aware of of HD DVD structures on DVD-+R/RW and that it is part of the spec but it is still not a true HD DVD burn anymore than a VideoTS on a CD-R is a DVD. It is a quick hack, nothing more.
Eug, I'm putting you on my ignore list. You are doing exactly what you falsely accuse me of doing. I'm done responding to you for now.

What is this? The war on goMac? I go into work a few hours, don't even reply to your post, and I'm already a button pusher...
The only person who's buttons I seem to have pushed was Obi's (who pushes a lot of buttons too.) Given that I'm on your ignore list, obviously I haven't been pushing your buttons...

Yeah, that I don't get. Eug seems like a nice, professional guy and he hasn't been pushy in this thread at all.
