Apparently the HD-DVD group is all about uncomfortable and unmemorable names.

I think HD-DVD TL would have been a better name honestly. But yes, it does remind me of Rom from Star Trek...

Oh hells ya. Personally as a web DESIGNER I would idealy only do the work on the Design in Photoshop and pass on all the coding from HTML to Java scripting, PHP to a programmer. This is how it works at all the high end design shops I have worked at.

Of course this isn't always the way it works so I sometimes I get stuck with doing the HTML and basic scripting myself. It takes longer and the code isn't quite as clean or effective. Even worse in that case I end up designing a site around what I know I can program.

It is always much better to have seperate people do it though as I have the design skills while the programmer is all about the good code. This way I can design whatever I can dream up and the programmer can bring it to life.

Ever see what a website that a programmer designed looks like? 99.9% of the time it is the worst looking site ever with all sorts of fancy useless code tricks.

Yep. A friend a mine wanted a site built for his company. (Just info stuff.) I told him to hire a web designer, but he got an computer science grad to do it for about 5X less cost. It was very, very ugly, and it had a bunch of fancy useless and ugly code tricks.

So, he had to scrap much of the site and redo it.

Warner Bros to back Blu-ray exclusively: sources

NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Time Warner's Warner Bros studio plans to announce it will release next generation DVDs on Sony Corp's Blu-ray format exclusively, two sources familiar with the plans said on Friday, dealing a big blow to Toshiba Corp'sHD DVD format.

An announcement is expected shortly, the sources said.

Confirmed

"The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers," Warner Bros Chairman and Chief Executive Barry Meyer said in a statement.[/i]

Well, that sucks big time. I'm going to CES so I'll hear what Warner has to say.

Time to return my HDDVD player?

Part of me is sad because I already have an HD DVD player... but mostly I'm happy because this will probably end this insanity.

The industry, the consumers, the studios, retailers... no one was benefiting from this format war.

If this is true, HD DVD will die a slow death over the next year or two and Blu will start to take off in leaps and bounds.

I won't be buying a Bluray player anytime soon, unless Profile 1.1 or 2.0 is under $300. I would get a PS3 for $400 instead if I wanted a Bluray player.

The story has been updated. It's 100% official now.

They will support both formats until May and then they go Blu-ray exclusive.

When I start hearing about a Blu-Ray player that's better than the PS3 and cheaper, then I'll think about it. But I may just end up buying a PS3 and be done with it.

Good move warner. Hopefully this will be done with soon and no other studio defects to the other side.
It sucks for HD fans but not like they didn't had warning signs from the beginning.

The signs were Warner is going exclusive one camp or the other pretty soon. Announcement was sooner than I expected and the wrong camp than I predicted.
