If they wanted, M$ could make their newest gadgets (RED), provided they contribute in the fight against HIV, which they do (M&BGF). Would you buy a Zune or Xbox 360 if it was (RED)?

I wouldn't even buy an iPod (RED). It's ugly. If I want to donate money, I'll just donate money.

I'll go back to 8-tracks before I'd buy a Zune.

I heard that Apple doesn't actually donate most the money from its own pocket as they charge resellers $10 more for the red. Rotten.

But all the sales from the Apple Store would have to come from Apple's pocket, right?

I guess so but it still isn't that great as Apple cuts out the middle man so it is pretty much like selling it to a reseller and just making a tad less but not actually $10.

Last I knew, the RED variants weren't even available from resellers. I thought they were only at the Apple Retail and Online stores. Maybe I'm wrong?

That was my understanding as well - where did you get your information that Apple was charging more (or even allowing them for purchase at all?)

Oh, and no, I wouldn't buy a RED Zune - I wouldn't buy a crap product just because part of the money went to charity.

I'd rather give the money straight to charity. And probably to a charity that addresses the causes rather than the effects of AIDS in Africa.

That's highly interesting and might go towards explaining why the iPod (RED) IS NOT AVAILABLE FROM RESELLERS...or it might not.

Apple eats the donation out of its own margin, which is why they're only offering it directly, where they also take in the retail-mark-up.

I won't buy a red product. I donate money myself and I don't want to be associated with a peer-preessure fad trend like that.

Oh, and do NOT expect SWG to admit he was wrong. He'll just say he had "heard" it but didn't believe it. But that doesn't explain his "rotten". comment.
