got the slim sirius one unit looks like a radar detector. it's plugged in my factory radio via aux input, it sounds great but isn't as loud as a cd or fm radio. I need to turn it up a few more notches to get the same volume. Is it because I got the el cheapo sirius, would a nicer unit put out louder sound, like the sirius replay?

Some decks allow you to adjust the volume of the AUX input. I know mine does. Check the user manual that came with your car stereo.

I don't think the Starmate has higher volume output. It's a good thing your car stereo has AUX input, though, because after the FCC crackdown the FM transmitters built-in to the units (both Sirius and XM) got their power reduced substantially. I had to buy a Belkin Tunecast to get a decent signal from my new one in my car, whereas our old units have enough power to broadcast through the entire house.

my deck is a factory unit 06 civic sedan, when listening to cds with the volume on 12 it's pretty loud with sirius and the volume on 12 it's normal listening level. also if I do upgrade units, do i have to pay another $15 act fee?

Yes. Sirius used to give free online activation, but that's no longer the case.

i know my sirius definitely has a volume built into the unit,i too would have my factory cd player turned all the way up and it would be normal listening level but then i was messing around with the menus and found an aux output option and cranked that way up. now its even too loud to have all the way up and comparable to the volume id get from cds
