Any help would be appreciated here.

I am thinking about purchasing the 30" cinema display from someone who already purchased it and does not need it. He says its still under warranty. I believe him, but I want to double check before I go through with the purchase. My two questions are:

1) how do I check if a product is still under warranty if I have the serial number?

2) does apple honor warranties even if you are not the original buyer?

Thanks everyone.

Well, I dunno, but you could call Apple customer service and ask...

I'm sure someone here would know the answer though.

Ask to see the original receipt?

Ask the buyer for the original recipt. If it's under a year old, it's still under warranty. Apple will honor even if you are not original owner, but you need proof of purchase.

The only exception is if it has been registered with Apple already- for example it has already been in for warranty repair. Then they will have it in the system and you will not need the recipt.

If the orginal owner registered it online or via mail when he first bought it, it might be enough, but then again, might not.

You can check the warranty status on Apple's Support site. It's on the right side, a little below the middle.

If you need to transfer AppleCare, prepare to deal with a great model of inefficiency at Apple.
