Mac Envy
The father of Vista once admitted that he'd rather have a Mac.

"Are Apple computers better than Windows PCs? The guy who led development of Microsoft's new versions of Windows apparently once thought so.

In a January 2004 e-mail to Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) chiefs Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, Vista boss Jim Allchin said he would buy a Mac if he wasn't working at Microsoft. . . ."

". . . .Allchin has announced plans to retire from Microsoft after the commercial version of Vista ships at the end of January. Note to employees of Apple retail stores in Bellevue, Wash., and Seattle: On or around Feb. 1, be on the lookout for a white-haired man wearing a Groucho mask, furtively purchasing an iMac."

"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." TJ

Honesty is great, but why would you say something stupid like that to your boss, especially when your boss is Bill freakin' Gates?

Doesn't Bill actually use a Mac anyways?

What makes you money and what you use to make that money are two different things.

I think that's Intel's CEO (Barrett?), not Bill Gates.

I've never heard that before. Is this true? I'm not going to rule anything out, but this is the first I've heard of that.

I do remember the speech in which he praised the Mac (sometime in the mid-90s).

Dude Bill Gates probably owns every PC ever made in the history of the world.

And sometimes you gotta lay down the law to your bosses who have gone a different direction than you feel is appropriate. If they weren't listening to the usual way of telling them something is wrong, then you have to tell them something that may shock them into listening to you. Or at least to hearing you, its up to them whether or not to listen.

I applaud him. He felt strongly about something and stood up for it. I'm just surprised Ballmer didn't throw a chair at him or something.

Bill Gates is too busy giving all of his money to his foundation so that they can buy up newspapers and hedge funds.
