Go to System Preferences

Click on Keyboard & Mouse pane

Click on Modifier Keys...

Select "No Action" for the Caps Lock

Now your Caps Lock key will be disabled. No more shouting or mistyped passwords!

BUT WHAT IF I LIKE MY CAPS LOCK?!?

(Hey, that was all-caps! Give me back my all-caps, dammit! That’s an order!)

(Much better)

I'll of course have to remap the "run" command in Ghost Recon. I like running in Ghost Recon. It's an essential part of killing Russian rebels.

my cats' rear ends have a special attraction to the caps lock key which is highly annoying. That and the key combo to reverse black and white which they hit by accident on a regular basis. How many of you even KNOW the combo to switch black and white?

to caps lock or not to caps lock.... a momentous decision.

I can't do it.

When I get to the Keyboard & Mouse pane, as you say, and select it all that comes up for choices is "Keyboard, Trackpad, Mouse, Bluetooth, Keyboard Shortcuts." When I select Keyboard Shortcuts there is no option for the Caps in there not even under Keyboard Navigation.

???

Actually, I did just find it under the Keyboard option.

So, I went to Sys Pref, then selected Keyboard, then Modifier Keys, and that's where it was - not under Keyboard Shortcuts as I thought it would be.

If you want something truly awesome, try DoubleCommand.

You can change Enter to Option, Backslash to Forward-Delete, and change Home and End to behave like the PC versions.

He wants to be able to make caps lock be perpetually on, so that everything you type is caps.

Caps lock can be useful to some people. For instance if you use Japanese, Chinese, or other text input methods, you can set caps lock to toggle between methods. This can be convenient if you don't have a keyboard localized for the region (where often there will be a dedicated button for switching methods).

Someone should write a prank Applescript that does Cmd-option-ctrl-8 continuously like a flashing light

check out the Matias USB 2.0 Keyboard

Right Control key and Caps Lock are switched from the standard layout. I use one at work, it bugs the hell out of me. But apparently you'd like it

Try playing games in reverse colors. You learn a lot about how colors show light and shadow when you have to figure them out backwards.

Yes. Unfortunately, I use a PowerBook that is not always at a desk so I can't use an external keyboard.
