Someone wants to sell me a good G5 system and monitor (I've been using thinkpads for 4 years and I'm feeling very mac deprived) for a good price. However, the only stipulation is that he wants to use BuySafe for the transaction. He's in Florida and I'm in Boston.
Anyone have any input, experiences, or advice regarding this service?
It seems as though ebay sponsors it but that doesn't mean much these days.

I've never used it.
However, buySAFE itself doesn't seem like a scam. It is indeed listed as an eBay Certified Solutions Partner, is a BBB member and has resolved the one complaint that was made, and spent a sh*tload of money on a real VeriSign SSL certificate. This is way more trouble than your average eBay scammer is going to go to.
However! It is possible that the person selling is going to send you to a fake buySAFE site made to look like the real one and scam you that way, or has come up with some other way to scam you.
What does his eBay feedback look like? While this isn't always a good measure if the account has been hacked, it can help you decide.
Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

How was it spam if this thread is about them? Wouldn't it make sense to actually have somebody from the company respond?
Put it back, guys!

Good Afternoon:
I would like to take the opportunity to answer your question about buySAFE.
• buySAFE is NOT a payment service, nor an escrow service.
• buySAFE does NOT collect or hold money from buyers in a transaction and we do not ask for or accept money or money orders from buyers.
• buySAFE's services are only available to sellers and items which reside inside the United States of America and its territories.
• buySAFE's services are NOT available for items sold offline.
• At this time, buySAFE's services are ONLY available on select retail Websites and the following marketplaces: eBay, Overstock.com Auctions, and TIAS.com. (Please note: buySAFE is NOT currently partnered with Craigslist or AutoTrader, so transactions on those marketplaces will NOT be bonded by buySAFE).
• Any buySAFE Webpage will begin with buySAFE lets shoppers know who to trust. Guaranteed., or shopping.buysafe.com, club.buysafe.com, or buySAFE Shopping - Compare prices from bonded sellers on eBay, Overstock and TIAS.
• When you verify a buySAFE Seal directly from an item listing, you should see the URL http://www.buysafe.com/verifyseal.asp in your browser address bar.
• Again, ALWAYS look for and verify the buySAFE Seal to ensure a bonded transaction is valid.
If you encounter an instance where buySAFE is being presented in a manner inconsistent with the list above, please avoid the transaction at all costs and report it to buySAFE immediately.

^^ wow thanks for that.
The guy is selling this G5 via craigslist so I'm to assuming it's not covered per your post. He sounds very sincere and legitimate from his rhetoric but I'm not taking any chances for $2300.

Context is everything; and I missed how the users were getting something useful out of it. So I undeleted the second post (which is what I deleted). The user will be unbanned shortly. Sorry.
(two minutes later) User is unbanned.

Try dumping your browser cache and reloading the page. And yep, only one post. The first post was at 10:24 CST and was deleted because when you just look at it, it looks like spam. (I deleted the SECOND post for that reason). Deleted posts don't count against a user's post count.
