I'm looking into buying a new electric razor and was wondering if anybody has used the Braun 360 Complete self-cleaning models before? I've heard some really good reviews, but those switching from a Norelco model (which would be me) say the adjustment to a Braun is painful and to stick with the rotary shave of a Norelco if that is what you are used to.
I'm not sure if the "self-cleaning" solution jazz is worth the hype either, as I don't see myself cleaning the razor every single day and then spending $11/month on a new clean & renew solution cartridge. If this feature is truly awesome, and really needs to be done though, I don't mind spending the extra money each month.
I'm interested to hear what you guys think, if anybody has used a Braun 360 Complete either currently or in the past before I go out and waste a ton of money possibly ($145 to $200).
Thanks!

Can't comment on that shaver, but I have a question for you and all electric razor shaving folk-how do you do it? Any time I try to shave with an electric razor, I end up going over the same spots too many times and irritating my face or not getting all the hair, and I always end up going back to the blade.

Rickey, I've got a Braun foil razor, maybe 3 years old, similar to the current design.
I LOVE my Braun. It's my second in about 10 years. About every two years I replace the blade and foil, it's about $20 bucks I think.
Of course a fantastic shave for me starts with the Braun and ends with a real razor. But inbetween clean-ups are great with the Braun.
Get it, love it.
ps - for what it's worth, mine was about $90.

I have the older Self Cleaning one, and yep it's definitely worth it. It stops the foil clogging up with the tiny hairs and keeps all the moving parts lubricated.
Believe me once you see all the gunk in the old cleaning cart, you wont be going back to one that doesn't.
I did use a triple head rotary shaver before (made by Phillips in the EU, never heard of Norelco) and this is better for me at least.
One thing is that Braun does the same thing with the foil/cutting block as the wet shaver people do with blades. So I can't fit the new '360' foil on my old shaver 'cos they slightly altered the way it clips in.

Using an electric razor takes some time and some conditioning. You have to use it consistently for a few weeks and those things start to go away. I've used both, and they both have their positives and negatives. It's just a matter of getting used to the electric.

I have a Braun with a cleaning dock thing, and it kept it clean. But it also seemed to cause the teeth on the cutter block (that wiggles around under the foil) to break. Since I stopped using the cleaning dock, that also stopped. I don't know if there's acid in there or what. It's kind of annoying since replacing the block and foil is 20 to 30 bucks.
I'd get the one that doesn't come with the cleaning dock. You can take the foil off and blow some air on it to clean it out good enough. It's all I've done with mine and mine works fine.

I remove the foil and blade and clean it off with a little brush, good as new.
On my old Braun, I recall not only did a blade or two break, but the foil got a hole in it too. OUCH!!
(although I was way past needing a new blade and foil at that point.

I got the same shaver that comes with the self cleaning thing, but it was cheaper to buy it with just the razor. I've had it for 6 years and I love it and have bought a new foil and blade for it once, but never wished that I got the cleaner for it. I just take the foil off and blow the hairs out, no fuss no muss.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

With the 'Just blow the heirs out' replies I should have took a pic of the cr*p filled liquid inside the used cleaning cart I just took out of mine. :yuck:
With the cleaner it gets done properly every day, before I did it once may be twice a week.
You get a Electric shaver for convenience, spending as much time brushing and blowing tiny hairs out of the thing (and on to the shelf in front of the mirror) as using it to cut the hairs from my face is hardly 'convenient'.

Never tried the cleaner so I could be wrong but I spend about 1 second a say blowing the hairs into the shower before I jump in. And I never have to look at that disgusting whatever you keep going on about.

I got a Philips/Norelco rotary razor for Christmas and am still in the getting used to it stage. The first shave felt like I was chopping up the very top layer of my skin and dead skin was indeed flaking away along with the hair. After the third shave, things started getting better. The instructions say it takes up to three weeks for your skin and beard to fully adjust to the razor.
In terms of cleaning, the blade assembly has a pop-up mechanism and I just rinse it under hot water for a few seconds after shaving each day. The instructions also say to take apart the blade assembly once a month and clean with their cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol, then put a drop of oil in the center of the cutter. So taking time to remember and do this stuff is a good incentive for the automatic cleaning system.
If rickey's concerned about swiching to Braun, Philips/Norelco has a self-cleaning model, too.

Ever notice shavers are named to what is "cool" at the time?
Remember the G3 or G4 razors? Now the "360"
I've noticed this throughout my life.
And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
Geeee eeeyeee jooooooooooe.

I actually didn't go with the Braun and stuck with the Norelco after going back and forth for awhile...I got the SmartTouch XL 9195, the top of the line Norelco model. It's pretty nice thus far, but I'll wait to see how things go over the next 30 days before making any final judgements.

No, it's not a wet/dry razor; however, you can clean it thoroughly by rinsing it with hot water.

I just bought a Braun Razor with self cleaner. Does anyone have a formula for do-it-yourself cleaning solution.$5.00 is a lot to spend for some denatured alcohol.

I have a Braun 360 and it is a great electric shaver. And the self-cleaning thing is very good (although i only use it every other shave). I don't think electric shavers are as good as a traditional wet shave but it is certainly 90% as good and a hell of a lot quicker. Plus Braun stuff is German made and pretty bomb proof.
