Hell, yeah! There's no party like a Michigan, dead president party!

I'd only attend to beat on his corpse with a crowbar for giving Rumsfeld and Cheney jobs way back when.

I have experienced a number of "big" events in Michigan, though none quite as big as a presidential funeral.

And scremingFit, if Ford hadn't given them jobs where they were somewhat under control, where would those two have wound up? I think they'd have been somewhere where they could have done a lot more damage much earlier.

Not quite on topic... but I was watching the coverage last week when they were flying Ford's body to DC from Palm Springs. I noticed that as the family members were boarding AF 1, there was a soldier at the bottom of the stairs checking ID. I guess I shouldnt' be suprised.. but thought it was interesting.

I just got back from there.. watched Air Force One land at the airport.. security was really tight.. state police everywhere, secret service FBI, county and city cops.. I watched it from the road..
Tomarrow is viewing from 11 am to 5pm however im not driving in that mess to downtown grand rapids.. 96 is going to be closed tomarrow because of the presidential motorcade along with m-21 so it would be hell getting down there

Most likely it was an Airman, NOT a Soldier. Air Force and all that... Anyway, can YOU identify one of Mr. Ford's children today? I'll bet most people couldn't have ID'd the Ford kids while he was president. ID is important...

My bad - but you knew what I ment

Not disputing the importance of I&A. I just thought it was "interesting" that it was done at that point (and I'm sure it was probably done a few time before hand). But you'd think by the time they are standing by AF1 and have participated through the entire ceramony, they ARE in fact, who they say they are. Due to the condition of Mrs. Ford, I never saw her enter the plane... but you would think procedure would also dictate that she be ID'd as well..... which make it even more interesting. Still makes you wonder "is it necessary"?

Nonetheless, I'm sure they were informed of the entire procedure ahead of time and simply took it in stride.
