It's funny how much they cheer over something so inconsequential.

But they're at a MacWorld keynote, inside the RDF eminating from Steve's pores. What do you expect?

Besides, what's wrong with being a Dork, huh?

You are ignoring context. It's not like they can all say "hey, that's a nice idea" - in a crowd they show their approval by applause.

PC people cheer over seemingly insignificant things too.

The "dork" comment reminds me of this Robot Chicken skit (Ignore the "Dicks with Time Machines" part).

Dork is the lowest form, Geek being the highest, with Nerd occupying the middle ground.

Those MacWorld videos give me the creeps. Thousands of Mac cultists flocking to a room filled with black curtains, eyes glued to an enormous image projected onto a white screen, enraptured as a man in a uniform speaks to them about his ideologies.

They're just computers, y'all.

Not only that, but the cultists were cheering and hollering about something that they hadn't even seen yet - it was just a giant icon on a giant screen, smiling down benignly at them like some techonological saviour.

...

That site was written by a self-proclaimed geek, what do you expect?

Dorks are intelligent but fun and socially comfortable, and usually have good taste in sports teams. A geek is a circus performer who bites the heads off chickens.

I doubt a black sweater and jeans constitutes as a uniform. XD

I wonder if this puts me in to your definition of "dork" territory, but I didn't think it was inconsequential at all at the time. It was a Macworld keynote address and the finder is the primary interface for using a mac. The finder has been slow and buggy since OS X public beta and announcing a replacement was a pretty big deal for mac users.

Unfortunately, it ended up being a bit less exciting in reality as the all new finder still has quote a few issues but the crowd didn't know it at the time.

It kind of is - Stevie always wears the same thing. It's his image, his uniform, his outfit...soon others will dress like him. Creepy.

The geek hierarchy sums it up pretty well. The page is so old it can vote.
