I guess if you're going to infringe, may as well infringe really big on the front of your box.

Take a look in your applications folder for a little Apple application called 'stickies.app'

You were prolly just being sarcastic though.

No, I wasn't. I don't see the relevance.

OS X: "Stickies" - a crippled app that only dupports text notes
Windows 3rd party app: "Voice Sticky Notes" - full blown information mgmt app.

So, again, what's the infringement ?

Stickies vs. Voice Sticky Notes ? Not hardly...

have you seen the icon?

get info on that app and see the icon's full size and compare it to the pic on the Pc's app's box...

[edit] also, the OP writes: "That picture looks suspiciously familiar..."

I'm not saying I particularly cared... I'm just surprised they used an image that's so ubiquitous with OS X.

It happens every day. Even on M$ websites. Nothing surprising about it anymore.

Also, the chances that Apple actually trademarked or copyrighted the icon of stickies.app is slim to none. In fact, I doubt they even could as I'm sure 3M (or whomever owns the rights to Post-It notes) already had.

You believe 3M trademarked that particular configuration of stickies and text? That seems unlikely.

I had thought "ok, Apple included a "lite" version of the Vioio product in OS X..." Nope, Apple takes responsibility for Stickies ("Version 5.2 (5.2.0), Copyright © 2005 Apple Computer Inc.")

It CANNOT be a "blatant copyright violation." It's just TOO blatant. There's some connection between Vioio and Apple's product. Hopefully someone will chime in with what that connection is.

The most likely explanation is that the image is royalty-free or in the public domain (i.e. anyone can use it for anything). That, or both Apple Vioio both paid the same entity for the right to use the image.

No, but I'm sure they trademarked the standard "sticky note" (i.e. yellow, square design for writing things on).

Eh, it happens. Check out Panic's rip-off page for examples of people stealing their icons.

You can, but it's kind of hard to balance the screen on its corner.

That's pretty funny. Even J&R ripped off one of their icons.

people sure like that silly truck icon i guess. Dunno how they can claim that a picture of a truck going the opposite direction, with quite obvious differences in design, is copyright infringement though.
