The Wii brought with it an enormous amount of excitement. I've noticed that some people have been disappointed with the Wii, or at least much quieter about it. This poll is meant to gauge the interest levels of everyone who meandered into this thread. So how about it?

InvisaPoll! It's all the rage in Europe.

But on topic: I absolutely LOVE the Wii. A bunch of my nerdy and lovable co-workers own one and I would give my left nut to have one.

Im happy with the Wii. i was just playing Sonic and i love the idea of a single console being able to handle all my gaming needs (i used to own, Atari2600, NES, Genesis, GCN) so 3/4 of the consoles i own are i nthis wee (couldnt resist) box.

The design is very impressive...tiny, love the materials (except for the fact that the shiny parts do scratch), very minimalist just the way i like it.

The controller is magic. I predict it will be the defacto way to control games.... the way the copycats acheive it might differ here and there....but the idea of a controller being able to map location and orientation in 3D space will remain.

Zelda is awesome, Wii play is addictive and CoD3 is alright (very last gen type visuals)... VC games are getting there...albiet slowley.

Now i want Mario, Metroid, Excite truck, Sadness on Wii. Contra ,TMNT, Sonic 2, Conquer's bad fur day(never going to happen) etc...on the Virtual Console.

My 2 complaints o nthe Wii are:
-it scratches easily (although they cant be seen easily)
-VC downloads and buddy lists are tied to the hardware

Anticipating:
-online game trailers
-online multiplayer racing game
-new IPs from all parties

My brother and I have been playing our Wii's with the family around the holiday. Now it seems like many of our aunts/uncles/cousins are getting one. Even my parents, who don't normally play videogames, are getting one when the supply is ample. They want it so that company can play when they visit (since the adults were loving Wii sports- boxing, golf and bowling in particular).

Everyone has had a blast making their own Miis. Nintendo should add some upgrades so that we can pick out specific clothing or accessories.

My mom also loves the Photo Channel feature, because she can now use the Wii to easily share the photos she's taken with her brand new digital camera.

A 50-something woman at my work is considering getting one — as soon as she can find one, anyway. I think that tells you all you need to know about the Wii's reputation.

I am still sanguine about the Wii, though I also have my complaints.

Personally, since I never had a GameCube, I went out and bought two Wavebird controllers and I've been playing GameCube games more than I have Wii games. The only Wii games I have are Red Steel, The Metal Slug Anthology (which doesn't really show off the hardware or controllers, but is fun nonetheless) and, of course, Wii Sports.

I don't care to play Wii Sports alone, but when people come over, it always brings people in the game and it's a lot of fun.

On the other hand, I don't like the artificial trickle of VC games nor the DRM attached to it, and I'm really hoping to see games with more attention to detail, including graphical detail. Of course, I haven't played Zelda, so I'm not counting that.

I think the Wii has received a tremendous response from gamers (new, casual and hardcore alike), and it's success depends on what Nintendo and Wii developers do.

Gamoe, totally agree with you.

The Wii will bring with it the "party game" and in all honesty, i think just one from that genre would be enough for me.

I'd play my GCn games, if the damn Wii wasnt region coded.

With all of the attention its recieving, I can't see how developers would ignor it. My brother works for Activision and he spent most of his Christmas vacation working on a design/game proposal that would make excellent use of the Wii controler. Its just a matter of time before all this stuff makes it to market.

I still can't find one anywhere and as soon as I do I will buy one.

I have been playing at a friend's house and I love it. We played a bunch of bowling games last night and some Elebits.

I can't wait until I get one. Wii Bowling is too much fun.

A friend of mine got one and at first I wanted to get one myself as well. But after playing a few games on it I realised that it's probably not worth it. Wii Sports is fun but it's no fun when playing alone. Zelda is ok. Red Steel is horrible.
I don't think I'm going to buy one. I'm not sure if I can stay interested in it for long enough. My attention span with games isn't what it used to be. I'm getting too old I guess. Games don't excite me as they used to.

I guess I'll put the money towards the iTV.. If it's anything interesting that is..

It's actually really fun.
My friend loves it and is around the 13th stage. His ray gun has gotten powerful enough to lift up garden sheds.

I played a few rounds and it starts off a little slow since you're just opening doors and moving light objects. Once you get used to the fps-type controls the game becomes a lot of fun.

I'll definitely be buying it when I get a Wii

Yesterday at church I was walking by the area were the younger guys (14-17) hang out and I heard them talking pretty excitedly about the Wii and how cool it is. I'd say the steam is still building on it.

I sold my Wii last week and got a PS3. I thought the controls with Zelda were just gimmicky, and waving your hand back and forth to slash a sword was no more involved or realistic than pressing a button.

Also, it seems like every game coming out is just a collection of mini games that make use of being able to point at the screen.

Yeah the graphics suck by today's standards, but I could live with that (and yes, I was using component cables on a HDTV), but I won't get a Wii again until there are some games with depth that actually make GOOD use of the controller. I was also disappointed in the online functionality. I know it'll improve, but it doesn't seem very social.

With Zelda I also find the sword swinging worse than pushing a button as after a few hours you learn to just flick your wrist slightly in any direction over actually making some sort of real slash motion.

In other games like Wii sports the only thing it has going for itself is the motion control.

It would help if there was a Wii to be gotten anywhere. The big winners over xmas seem to have been all the stores trying to dump xbox 360s and PS2s on frenetic Wii-less parents.

Good thing people actually want those systems though as right now they are better than the PS3 and Wii as they actually have a large library of games most of them being super cheap.

Because the motion you make with your hand in no way corresponds to the motion that Link makes with the sword. It's worse when playing as the wolf. You don't move your hand differently to perform different actions, you just shake it side to side. Waving the other hand performs a spin move.

By replacing a button press with shaking your hand, you're just replacing one repetitive motion with another.

A button still attacks in wolf/swings. I just used that when I felt lazy.

Yes, you see, because the Wii is already a major disaster, Nintendo slaughters innocent Cambodian orphans, and the DS Lite is the mark of the Beast.

I hate "puzzles" that just involve traipsing around the countryside from point A to Point B and back again.

Head forward up to a gate in the mountainside (on
the left). It's locked, so run northwest to find another opening behind
the cliff. Enter the cave and open the chest inside to find a Small
Key. Then light up the two torches on each side of the chest (with the
lantern) to make another chest appear. Open it for a Heart Piece. With
the key in hand, return to the locked gate southwest of there and open
it with the key. Head inside and follow the path to the very end to
find the monkey and the kid locked in a cage. Break it open with a few
sword slashes to free the kid and you'll return home safe and sound
with him.
That's just time consuming crap IMHO. And every quest seems to be a variation of this: Arrive at Point A. Run to Point B (a long way away), pick up X, run back to Point A, open Y with X, pick up Z, run back to Point B with new Z, drop Z on ground and run in circle three times, run back to Point A, pull lever.

Great. Like I want to spend my free time as a lab rat in a maze*.

I let my son play, figuring he's six and will live longer than me, but he can't read properly yet (and everyone is mute in NintendoLand) so I end up on standby for subtitle duties. So now we're down to the grim task of getting through this game with a walkthrough to consult (every few minutes).

Admittedly bits of it are fun, but perfect?! A pox on you.

So you want a game with puzzles that are easy to solve and don't require you to do very much? What fun is that?

And Halo is always a variation of "Pull right trigger, pull right trigger, move around, pull right trigger, pull right trigger, pull left trigger, move around, pull right trigger, pull right trigger." But it's only time-consuming crap if you don't enjoy blasting up aliens.

No, I love a good puzzle. Running backwards and forwards finding hidden items isn't puzzle solving IMHO. It is performing random tasks for reward.

Puzzle-wise Myst dumps all over it.

In fact, to my mind, Myst did everything in 1996 that Zelda does today, only Myst does it better (at one frame per minute ). Better puzzles, prettier graphics and a more involving storyline

I hated FF7 too. So shoot me.

Don't get me started on Halo, that boring POS! Coming from multiplayer Quake 3 Arena to Halo I couldn't believe the bland level design and scarcity of action. Like Quake on valium.

Zelda had it's place a few generations back. Good for people who enjoyed it ten years ago and want to feel nostalgic at a better framerate- not so great for the random gamer who just wants a bit of fun (again, only IMHO).

Well at least there's that variety that Nintendo is commited to.

you get the hardcore games like Zelda, and then you get the Wii Sorts and Mario Parties and Ravin Rabbids. on the flip side, with the XB360 and PS3, you have predominantely FPSs and racing games..... which tend to attract the hardcore crowd.

I think the VC will keep me busy till major new titles come out..... personally im really loking forward to Sadness... its a new IP, new idea, looks like a new genre(or a mix of a couple).. with pretty good art direction and production value. im optomistic i guess.

On Zelda i used the walkthrough a couple of times. But i must say i found the game awesome.... at times i didnt use the warping system and chose to ride across Hyrule field on Epona just cause it looked/sounded/felt awesome.

Cheers

"Daaaaad! I'm stuck agaaaaain!"

At the end of the pathway, you're supposed to go
right, but can't cross at the moment because of the spikes. Go left
instead. Grab onto the pulley here to open the gate and raise the
water. You can now swim over the spikes to cross to the other side. Go
right to find another pulley and gate at the end. Grab onto it to open
the gate and drain the water. Now go in the opposite direction, left,
and Midna will get off at the end and go through a gate that you can't
reach yourself. Look at the bottom of the left wall on the side of the
gate to spot a hole in the wall. Crawl through it to meet back with
Midna and follow the path to a large room. Go up the stairway circling
around the room on your left and you'll find yourself falling when you
get over the first gap. Start over and head up. Midna will help you out
this time. Target her and jump to cross. Keep heading up the stairs and
cross the rope to reach the top of the stairway, only to find out the
door here is locked. Stand on the rock rubbles on the right, then Midna
will help you get to the very top of the room.
OH YEAH, WE'RE HAVING FUN NOW!!!

Well, if there wasn't the walkthrough, that could be 20 minutes of puzzles, which would make you feel like you accomplished something. Walkthroughs destroy puzzle games you big loser.

Yeah, I haven't looked at a walkthrough once (I'm on the last dungeon now). If I didn't feel like solving puzzles, I just wouldn't play the game!
