Yeah yeah, Long title. I know.

It seems like the largest concern about touch screens is that there's no tactile response. Your finger isn't sure about where it's supposed to be because it can't feel it's way around.

I think touch screens work on the same principle on a mobile device. sure there aren't any recognizable shapes for your fingers, but once you get a feeling for the devices size, and you start using it, I think that you'll start building up a muscle memory (so to speak) that results in you knowing where to press and what it's doing.

it is an issue but not as big as something. No nothing as as good as a full keyboard but that isn't on any phone.

You know what is as just a big an issue... using those tiny assed keyboards on any phone today. The Pearl sells like hotcakes yet the keyboard is TINY and rather hard to use as it has 3 functions per key. The click when I press it is nice but I rather have big onscreen ones compared to it.

If people can live with tiny keys on smartphones today, they can live with a huge touchscreen. Heck nevermind touchscreens, normal phones are a pain to use for texting.

I thought another way of going about it is to have the vibrate function do a slight buzz when you push a key but that might not be possible yet with the current battery.

I think eventually touch screens will be able to 'raise' slightly in different shapes. Either that, or a plastic overlay that slides over the touch screen.

I blind type a lot of SMS messages so a non tactile touch screen is pretty darn useless to me. I don't have an issue with the small buttons, nor does anybody that I know.

I think it might be cool if it can somehow give off a tiny charge where you touch it so that feels like a vibrate or push.

It's a give and take thing. To get the larger screen, they decided to lose the physical keys. But, it also opens up opportunities for specialized dictionaries and internationalization.

With a phone that nice looking why would you ever use it without staring at it. My current phone is ugly and so I don't mind changing it to silent without taking it out of my pocket, but any excuse to take out the iphone is ok by me.

I also think that the iPhone's touch screen combined with the fact that it's an iPod, too, will have people using headsets a lot more than they do now.

White earbuds will eventually just evolve into being part of the human being. LOL

I know the Alpine touchscreens have feedback. If I hold a button to scroll I can feel the feedback of each line that scrolls so I can tell how far down its going. When you just push buttons you feel feedback as though you have pushed a button also. So feedback on a touchscreen is possible, no idea if the iPhone does this or not though.
