From the source article.
Police are especially keen to trace the man with the sword who came to the aid of their officers, and have asked for anyone with information to call them.
Why do I get the feeling they want to thank him, then confiscate his sword if he doesn't have a license for it?

Sounds unbelievable, but that's an amazing story if it's true.

That's police and government for ya. That'll teach him to do a good deed and avoid questioning! I hope they do not find him.

He probably is off eating takoyaki. I would start a search of all the ramen, kaiten sushi, and onsens in the area. Also if there are any Hello Kitty stores around you should also check them as well.
