Hi,

I will be in NY in February and would like to do a few days snowboarding. I believe the nearest place is Vermont - can anyone offer any advice on which is the best place to go there? Any tips on getting there from NYC?

Thanks!

My favorite in the East is Stowe by far. But not this year....there is no snow anywhere. You can go...but its just about all man made and it pretty much sucks imo.

Take 95 North to 91 North to 89 North into VT. Exit 10.

Cool - thanks for the tips.

What do you think about Stratton? I have heard some pretty good reports about the resort.

Some of the East is finally getting snow, so you might actually be in luck if you keep your fingers crossed and tap on all available wood.

Too bad you couldn't make it out West, though. We're getting insane amounts of snow out here.

my favorite mountain in VT is www.Okemo.com, Killington is very big and popular and is probably making snow too. I'd check the conditions whereever you go to be sure. It's been a good week for snow at least.

Killington and Okemo are the two I would recommend.

We're supposed to be getting some snow (FINALLY) here in VT/NH within the next 24/48 hrs and it's supposed to be a decent amount

Your options are:
In the south, Mt. Snow, smaller moutain, but ok for one day of riding.

Central:
Stratton Mtn, Magic Mtn, Bromley. I prefer Stratton of these, but tickets there are pretty pricey.

North Central: Killington, Okemo, and Sugerbush. Both solid resorts, Killington is the largest ski resort on the east coast and has a killer nightlife scene. Okemo is a fun mountain but much smaller.

North: Stowe, always a solid choice, similar to Okemo.

"Throw a snowball and hit Canada": Jay Peak, Burke Mtn and (to a lesser extent) Smugglers notch.
All nice moutains, but (again, except Smuggs) they are one heck of a drive.

There are several other mtns in the state, but given the rough snow year I'd stick to the places that have giant snowmaking budgets.

There are several nice places in upstate NY to ski also. Whiteface Mtn comes to mind.
