I've been reading some of the posts and I'm wondering if this site is only for Mac users? I'm a desperate Grandmother who is trying to scan and print pictures of my grandchildren. I'm new to any of this, so please be gentle.
If I press the photo button, I get true color, but lines in my pictures? If I press plain, I don't get any lines but the color is off? Any solutions?
I have a Windows XP computer. I'm sorry I ever bought it, because it picks up everything. I'm planning on buying a Mac as soon as I get some money and will be asking for advice.
Thanking you for taking time to read my posts.

I'm sorry, but this is a Mac forum. I'll move this to the Lounge though, I'm sure one of us will be able to answer your questions.

Hey Desperate, what is the model of the printer/scanner? It should say somewhere on the printer, similar to HP DeskJet 840c or something like that, (most likely not called a DeskJet).
Once you know what that is, go to:
HP Support & Drivers
and type in your model name to search for a driver, download the latest driver and install it. Restart your computer, and see if that helps.
If you are having any trouble with this post back,
good luck!

Does this affect images on your computer screen or is this happening when you are copying from the scanner and then directly printing them like a copier machine?
What about images you print from your computer? Do they have "lines"?

Uhm, did you try to clean the printer head ?
It's an option in the printer utilities that come with the printer software.
