Life&Style Weekly

Grey’s Anatomy star Isaiah Washington has entered a residential treatment facility in an effort to quell the controversy surrounding his anti-gay remarks — and save his job, Life & Style has learned exclusively.

And in a statement released today, Isaiah, confirms this saying, “With the support of my family and friends, I have begun counseling. I regard this as a necessary step toward understanding why I did what I did and making sure it never happens again. I appreciate the fact that I have been given this opportunity and I remain committed to transforming my negative actions into positive results, personally and professionally.”

This is so stupid. So he slipped up and made an anti-gay remark, now he's going into rehab to heal himself?

Everything about this is ridiculous. If you call someone a fag, or a nig, or white trash, you go to that person and apologize and make sure you didn't hurt his feelings. With gay people especially, they aren't going to hold it against you if you simply say "Sorry, I won't say that again".

This trend of celebrities going into rehab after making bigoted comments (a la Mel Gibson) is so ridiculous. We all slip up from time to time, we should not expect someone to have to go through a pointless rehab process to pay for their sins. Nor should these celebrities assume that substance abuse is a good excuse for bigotry, because it isn't.

They're just showing the rest of us that the upcoming re-education gulags aren't so bad.

Excellent point. I can't stand the whole: "I was drunk/high, so I am not responsible for what I said, just for being drunk"-attitude. There's a rapidly dropping of personal responsibility lately.

Well, our culture has labelled anything remotely anti-homosexual as "homophobic", which insinuates that people who are against homosexual behaviour are as such not because of religious reasons or personal beliefs, but because they are afraid of homosexuality.

Since many irrational fears come from mental problems, I suppose people have started to think that being anti-gay must mean there's something wrong with you, and that you must harbor an irrational fear of homosexuality and homosexual behaviour. Therefore, you need special counseling to overcome your "fear" of a lifestyle that you always thought you disapproved of because of religious or personal beliefs - silly, silly you.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...
