On numerous occasions, bank officials warned Katona that they strongly suspected that he was "investing" money into the well-publicized Nigerian fraud scam. Katona ignored these repeated warnings.

They probably need it. Nigeria is a very poor country.

This is so sad. When his $30 million (or whatever they promised) comes he'll be in jail.

Yeah, but the Nigerian scammers are rich.

And people decry capitalism.

This is how it works. You have the freedom to do much of what you wish and what the market will bear. Then if you step over the line you are nabbed or live like a fugitive for the rest of your life. But these guys just see the opportunity side of the equation. They will see the punishment side of Crime & Punishment the rest of their lives.

I think we're looking at this the wrong way...

Maybe we should be hiring more Nigerians as County Treasurers?

I wonder who's overseeing, and why that's forbidden.

Perhaps the copy writer is related to the ex treasurer.

I am surprised there's even one million dollars in Alcona county. That's some pretty empty land there. Mostly just camp grounds and mosquitos.

Maybe the Nigerians consider camp grounds and mosquito breeding areas as a bustling business center by comparison. Seems like they know their market pretty well. (I know it was actually luck.)

Find yourself a mosquito infested swampland & campgrounds to exploit.

Find yourself some very nice sandy woods with a lot of streams and lakes with nice fishing. Great for camping to exploit. Damn Americans want to take advantage of a hard working Nigerian's labor.

Fixed.
