Looks like Intel are releasing some Extreme versions of Merom soon (ie this year). 2.6GHz would give the MBP and iMac a good boost, because as far as I knew the standard Merom was limited to 2.33GHz. Processor cost for the 2.6 is $795, so what are the chances of this going into an iMac (probably the 24") or MacBook Pro when they are updated, with the processor costing that much? (I have no idea of processor prices for other Core 2 hardware, but that does seem like a lot for a processor).

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

According to the Pricewatch.com cpu page, it seems like the Core 2 Duo processors inside the MacBook Pros are around $222 and $316; which is a lot cheaper than the price of the Extreme version.
I'm not up to date on processors and their technology. The Extreme model, is that anything special over the Core 2 Duo other than faster speeds?

I'll be buying whatever the next 17" MacBook Pro upgrade is. It's time to upgrade my PowerBook. I'm hoping something faster than the current 2.33Ghz. Just because, no real reason.

I:d love for them to update to those new chips, but they seems a tad expensive right now. Except maybe on the high end models.

I too am in the market for a Macbook Pro..... so nice...

It would be more reasonable just to make a Conroe iMac.
