I did something similarly stupid when I was in high school. I used a drive a '70 Chevelle (should have been the death of me...I loved that car) and I was cruising Main Steet on a Saturday night. Some dumbass pulled out in front of me just as we pulled up to a red light. To express my disapproval, I powerbraked the car (stomp on the brake, stomp on the gas, light up the squeeling tires and enjoy the roar of the engine and smoke rolling off the tires).
Next thing I know there's a police officer standing in front of me with a very grumpy look on his face, one hand outstretched towards me and the other emphatically pointing to a nearby parking lot. Oops... 
I let off the gas and creeped over to the parking lot. The cop held me there until a cruiser came and they sat me in the back seat while they wrote me up for exhibition driving. The cop that busted me turns and tells me how stupid I was and asks me, "What would you have done if your brakes had failed?!" My first thought was, "Run your ass over."  I bit my tongue though, took my ticket and off I went.
