Hey ya'll this is kind of a weird question but I thought maybe you would be able to help me out since ya'll are very knowledgeable. Anyways my beagle sheds a ton of hair and I was wondering if there is anyway to prevent him from shedding so much hair? Also if you know what do you recommend for cleaning up the hair? Thanks

Trade him in for a dog that doesn't shed, like a Shitzu.

I don't think there is a way to prevent your dog from shedding. The best thing you can do is to groom your dog twice daily.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

That's weird that it would shed so early in the year. Most dogs shed bad in the summer, not winter. Try buying a shampoo that helps dry skin. Dogs can shed sometimes because of dry skin.

Brush his / her coat frequently. Also I agree with shampooing with a good dog shampoo. If it keeps up you should have the vet take a look.

Dogs do this. Our GSD sheds a ton, so I bought a special, rather expensive vacuum to clean up what falls off of him. And weather and climate can make shedding worse or oddly timed or both, so if you didn't have a very cold winter, or it's coming late, you may be seeing an extra amount of shedding.

Look here for some guidance.

New to this dog?

No, I have had the dog for a while. His shedding is just getting out of control. Maybe because it is getting hot in Atlanta. Thanks everybody

I could have sworn the thread title said "shredding". I was expecting a pic of a dog with a guitar and some story about how he won't turn his amp down.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

People have different methods for controlling the amount a dog sheds, so chill.

OT: I shave my dog as she begins to shed her winter coat and summer coat. It keeps the tumblefurs from going across the floor.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

what type of food do you use? I reccomend Nutro for skin and coat I use it w/ my boston terrier she sheds much less. I also add fish oil in her food helps too. and brush your dog daily.

Nutro Natural Choice is decent, but not great.

Wellness Lamb and Rice is an extremely good choice. Canidae, Solid Gold and Natural Choice are also excellent foods.

We use canidae, it's a natural dog food. Her coat improved, and she shits a LOT less. Same frequency, smaller turds. Only 2 times a day. I can post pics if you want, they're really quite small, hard, and non-soupy.

I highly reccommend a book called "Smarter Than You Think: A Revolutionary Approach to Teaching and Understanding Your Dog in Just a Few Hours" by Paul Loeb and Suzanne Hlavacek to anyone thinking of owning a dog.

Never tried 'nutro', but we did have her on science diet for a while, since it was supposed to be good. Soupy poop everywhere, and lots of it. Since switching to Canidae, it's been much better. Your puppy may vary. (YPMV).

First thing you do when you look for dog food is look at the ingredients.

Generally, the first five makes up most of what's in the food.

Stay sway from any by-product, corn, wheat, soy and meat meal.

Whole Chicken isn't too bad as long as it isn't the only source of protein. Try to make sure it has Chicken Meal in it also.

Yeah, isn't "chicken" a "meat product"? Or do you mean "beef meal?" My dogs eat a Nature's Recipe variety that's got lamb and rice in it-good for coats and overall health. It doesn't, however, prevent shedding.

Rice= not so much good. It's kind of a filler. Fillers= more poop.

There is a difference between "meat meal" and "chicken meal".

If it says meat, it can be anything. When it is specific, like chicken or beef, you know what it is.

There has to be some kind of filler to keep the protein level from becoming to high.

Rice is ok. Corn, wheat and soy dogs have a tendancy to be allergic to. There systems don't digest it that well either.

I see. It wasn't clear that you meant "generic meat like product" rather than "any meat meal."[QUOTE=Rumor;3303684]There has to be some kind of filler to keep the protein level from becoming to high.
