I got accepted into the South Carolina Fire Academy. I'm pretty pumped. I'll be in Columbia on March 25th to start my 7 week recruit school and hopefully I'll get on with Rock HIll FD. I was wondering if any of you guys lived in Columbia. I'll be living at the academy and I cannot go to bars or anything but I'd love to hang out with some people since I'll be almost 900 miles away from home.

Any advice for me btw?

If you're coming from someplace like California or New York you will have to set your watch back about 10 years

Rock Hill might as well be Charlotte. Columbia is a little more Southern and traditional, but Charlotte is a zoo these days.

It's a shame you won't be able to get out in Cola. It's a nice place to visit.
He can be fixed -- you can't.

Congrats. I live in the stately and charming city of Charleston, SC for several years now. In these parts, we think COLA ... and everything else in this state is crass, uncivilized, and best used as pit stops or bathroom breaks on trips to more interesting places. COLA is the state capital though and a big college town so it has better infrastructure and lots more of gub'ment buildings, zoos, arts theaters etc. than the rest of the state. Rock Hill is bascially an extended suburb of Charlotte but has its own character from its development prior to the CLT metropolis growing out to meet it.
Best advice ? Take a trip down to chuck-town on a weekend in April or May ... gorgeous city and truly unique in a New Orleans or Key West sort of way. Try Myrtle Beach in early May ... that's when all the college kids are there getting drunk and naked (High schoolers come in June after their graduation, and then the family crowd for the rest of the summer).
Good luck with the fireman school ... sounds like an interesting few weeks.
