CompUSA. Some good people are going to be unemployed shortly, as well as some who deserve to be.

http://consumerist.com/consumer/comp...res-240115.php

CompUSA is closing 128 of 229 stores, a source familiar with the proceedings tells The Consumerist.

A liquidator, the same used for Good Guys, will take over tomorrow, Wednesday 2/28, he says.

A company insider also tells us that says the closed stores will be ones with a high monthly rent and will include locations on the East Coast, West Coast, and in the Chicago and Atlanta areas.

Stores being closed were informed via conference call with headquarters around 3pm eastern time today. — BEN POPKEN

maybe they can start a little "store within a store" inside apple's stores. i'm sure apple can allocate a crappy little corner somewhere in the back for the right price.

That store within a store concept was a flop, at first. However, within the past five years, when Apple put its own employees in many of CompUSA stores Apple section, Comp's Apple sales have gone nowhere but up, and rather dramatically in most cases.

I got a free Mac mini from Good Guys when they went out of business. I think I'll swing by CompUSA.

Its true that CompUSA's Apple sections got way better in recent years. I remember when it first started and I would go in and listen to the Apple sales guys talk about how bad Macs were and how PC's were better for most everything. It was a dumb idea to put regular old CompUSA employees in charge of selling Apple products. But Apple got its crap together and now has no need for CompUSA's little corner.

I must admit I've spent a fair amount of money at my local CompUSA, but I won't miss em one bit. They were always full of jerkoff employees who never could help me with any questions I had.

Good riddance, really. Last time I was in a CompUSA I was looking for a USB compact flash card reader. The employee showed me USB thumb drives. I explained to him I wanted and external compact flash card reader that plugged into a USB port, that it was designed to read the data off a compact flash card, and so he showed me compact flash cards and digital cameras. Then he shugged his shoulders and said "That's what we have." I found the overpriced craptastic selection of flash card readers myself a few aisles from where he left. I hope that idiot's store closes. I hope it is just because of him, and I hope his co workers, enraged by the store closing just because of him, stone him and he dies.

If any Colorado stores close, I'll be there and check out the closeout scraps!
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
