Spymac is dying still? Just checked out the site and oops, someone forgot to hire a designer.

The forums already died a couple months ago. Last time I opened my bookmark for it I got a 404.

They've been forgetting that for years, though.

I remember when Spymac actually looked rather cool. I think I registered, but I am a loyal MacNNer.

MindFad -- Read this:
SpyMac Relaunches as Ugly YouTube Clone

I was amazed too. Actually, what amazes me most is that after so many years of lurching from one bad business plan and crappy web design to another, they still had it in them to do one more transformation, into something even more hideous and malformed than what had come before.

Ha ha... great link.

I think their business plan is "See something that's cool... wait ~3+ years for it to become less cool, make a lower quality copy of it."

Like one of the posters said, "It looks like they took the Spy and Mac out of Spymac"

well you guys have every right to slam spymac. they totally ruined what was once a good thing. since the end of version 3 (about 2 years ago) it's been a total trainwreck. the Spymac Revival Day is my attempt to try to resurrect (however briefly) the remaining tatters of the community. and yeah there are a few of us die-hards still there. we've stayed not because we're die-hard spymac fans but because we enjoy each others company and have known each other for years despite how bad it's become.

there is still a community there. it's very very small now; and since spymac's latest upgrade we've been reduced to the backdoor entrance. the actual community can be found at Spymac.com

spymac did that so that the public who visit it's main section (the YouTube ripoff) would not have to read all the bad things those of us that have stuck with them for years are saying about it.

Spymac Revival Day, to me, isn't a day to celebrate spymac, but a day to reconnect with those who made spymac the fabulous community it used to be but went away.

As much as I once enjoyed Spymac, there are plenty of reasons to just let it die off naturally.

And I will refrain from making a joke about Spymac`s `backdoor`. That wouldn`t be nice.

What version of Spymac tried to offer all of these internet services such as multi-gig email accounts? Were they ever successful at providing solid service?

If they were really trying to attract people on the merits of large email accounts competing with Google and the like, why would they run this service on a domain called Spymac.com?

Seriously, what was their focal point back during its peak? Community? How did that make it money?

Not trying to sound overly critical of their business, although I suppose this does... Just trying to understand what their goals were. I never did figure that out.

For that matter, what are their goals now? If they wish to compete with YouTube, why not start up a new domain name?

their original goal was to incorporate the rest of the site into the new look. however after the negative responses from many longtime members they decided to keep Leapfrog (the gallery) seperate from the community part of spymac. so effectively there's now two seperate spymac's

Spymac Leapfrog: Spymac.com
and
Spymac Classic: Spymac.com

spymac made Leapfrog the main page. the only link to the heart and soul of spymac is at the bottom of the page at a link called "community". from there you can find classic spymac
