for my iBook. I finally got a new screen after going without a laptop since October. I went ahead and made the Apple logo blue for fun, and one of my graphic designer friends did a couple quick photoshops for fun with the picture I showed him. He has a screenprinter for shirts and a vinyl cutter for stickers and stuff.
Here's the original:
And the two he made:
I like how he incorporated the Apple logo into the first one. The main point of this is for a bit of personalization and security knowing that it will be harder to steal. Until today I never would have considered any type of stickers on my iBook but I think if I found the right design it could be fun.
Any suggestions?

I like the "digg" Kevin Rose has on his MacBook. But that's just for him.
I also have a friend who owns a shop with a vinyl cutter and am contemplating something to put on my white MacBook. I have no idea. I am probably putting more thought into it that most people put into a tattoo.

It will be just as easy to steal. Perhap a little easier to identify. Unless they pull off the vinyl sticker.

Or you could go with an anti theft motif.

That is perfect. How do you do the single colored image? I've seen my friend do it in Illustrator, any idea if it can be done with Gimpshop?

Don't know about gimp but I'm guessing its similar to photoshop...
Put the picture you want on a new layer, image>adjustments>desaturate the layer and image>adjustments>posterise it to 2 levels, edit>fill with the selected colour from the apple logo, and set the layer to multiply (this gets rid of the white background). Then edit>transform>distort and make the perspective of the picture fit the photo.

Don't vinyl cutters need to be feed an EPS? Unless you're screening the picture onto clear plastic clingy vinyl, then nevermind.

Yeah, it would have to be a single color. He has rolls of different colors, and the cutter is controlled by his PC.

Personally, I think the teal logo is enough. Anything you else you add will probably look out of place or contrived.

Yep, steps are exactly the same in Gimp, except it just doesn't look very good if I do 2 levels, or even three levels for that matter. Should I have to do a lot of cleaning up?
The picture on my iBook was done by my friend in Photoshop, and I just did these in Gimp, using the exact same image.
Is the problem me or Gimp?

To avoid so much detail clean up, you might try a slight blur before you take it to 2 tone.
You also should try going to greyscale, then "threshold" instead of posterizing (image/adjustments/threshold in Photoshop). Then go back to color and colorize with fill.

Oooo, I like that a lot. First try with Threshold:

Theshold has the advantage of letting you determine where the mid point between black and white breaks by moving the slider.
