So I am staying on kings road in chelsea and me and my friends are trying to find a place in the area to have a nice pint. We are college students (plus the exchange rate) we don't have very deep pockets. We are looking for a good pub that isn't very american.

My favorite bar I have found so far is Waxy O'Connor because the 3 times I have been there, we have met some chill people from scotland, france, england, and germany. Last time they had people playing Irish music with violins and a guitar. It was really nice to chill out with a pint listen to the music. We aren't looking for some place to take shots and black out.

Even if its not in Chelsea (Waxy's isn't), just a cool pub to go have a pint after work.

Also, we went to a nice pub that had a burger, chips, and a pint for 4 pounds in Trafalgar Square. I can't remember the name, but it had a sign that said, "Welcome to a Traditional Irish pub" above the door. Does anyone know any other places that have deals like that?

thanks...

Waxy O'Connor's near Leicester Square? That place is too cheesy and touristy. They have some good ales though. Chelsea is the wrong place to be. You should go to Kilburn and Hampstead. That's where most Irish live.

The Holy Bush in Hampstead is Ace, also Toast in Hampstead willl treat you like kings as they're not getting so much business and do great food... but Hampstead's not cheap..!

You are clearly insane. That is a very expensive area. Anyway, http://www.beerintheevening.com.

I have no choice though. My school puts us here. Thats why I said the place didn't have to be in chelsea just as close as possible would be good.

I don't find Waxy to be all that bad. I can see the cheese a little bit, but most of the people there def don't seem to be american, which is a plus in my book.

I would love to go outside of london central. My project is at the british museum, so my oyster card is only zone 1-2. Some people have projects in brent places like go to pubs after work and pay under 2 pounds a pint. I am not looking for something that cheap, just somewhere cool.

And anywhere else like that place I mentioned in Trafalgar Square that has good deals on lunch and a pint.

We used to go to the Cross Keys in Chelsea. It has since changed from a real London boozer, where the landloard used to sell (probably) poached pheasants under the counter, to a Chelsea watering hole. But it's still nice.

Lots of cool pubs around the Farringdon area in zone 1.

If you are on a budget, just look for any "J.D. Weatherspoon" pub - where you can pick up a pint of lager for around £2 and cheap eats too.

Now that it's getting a bit warmer, you might want to head down to the South Bank (London Bridge) to find some good boozers.

Shoreditch (Old Street) has some trendier ones too.

You could also go down to Hammersmith, and follow the signs down to the river to find a good couple of traditional pubs.

The Eagle on the Farrigdon Road, next to The Guardian offices, is the original gastro pub and pretty reasonably priced.

You're near the center so, my pub is called The Hog and the Pound. It's a smokey little place behind Bond Street Station on the corner of South Molton and Davies Street. Don't eat there though.

For a good value meal for two go to Bond's. It's on the corner of Dering and Tenterden Street between Bond Street and Hanover Square. They also serve Hoegaarden, my fave beer. Quite a popular pub and busy most afternoons and evenings. If you're not up to eating there skip across Bond Street and go to Blenheim Street. You'll see an Italian restaurant with tables outside and a large clay oven and brick kitchen inside. They do the best and most authentic pizza in the center of London. Tell them Aron who used to own the shop around the corner recommended the place and maybe you'll get a discount if the right staff are working.

Try The Crown - very near the British Museum. Nice pub, very cheap drinks and food, like most Samuel Smith pubs.

I would suggest you steer well clear of theme pubs - IMO they aren't real pubs.

My favourite in London is the Churchill Arms in Kensington - they serve Fullers beers. Kensington isn't the cheapest place on the planet but the pub is the best. And if it is a beer experience you're after find a pub that serves Theakston's Ales.
