I used LaCie monitors for the last few years and kept them very well calibrated. In the last few months I have gone to 24" and 20" iMacs at work and home and found them well calibrated right out of the box. The brightness was too high for the ambient light at the office, so I had to turn it down to the lowest brightness, but I am very pleased with both monitors.

Over the last couple years, I've gone from a 17" CRT to a 17" LCD to a 20" LCD and now a 24" LCD... and I love it

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

I went from a 17" CRT to a 21" Samsung... with 1000:1 Contrast ratio and 5 MS response time.

Never looked back.

I found going from a 17" CRT to a 17" LCD to be amazing. I am never going to buy another CRT for a computer, and probably not for a TV either. What a difference!

However, I think my next desktop display will be a wide-screen 19" or 20" rather than something really huge. Not only do I need to worry about space on the desk (width, not depth!), but I don't want to need to use a magnifying glass to see the text from a comfortable viewing distance!

I went from a 19" CRT to a 19" Widescreen LCD (Newegg.com - Hanns·G JW-199DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 Built in Speakers - Retail) and it's great. There's also a ton more space on my desk.

Oh, he'll get one. Eventually. But that G5 still has quite a bit of life left in it. I expect my G5 will last me another 2 or 3 years, at least (And I've had it since 2003).
