Anything other than a flip phone probably wouldn't have broken.

What phone did you have that broke? I'd agree with analogika that a flip is the most breakable form of phone.
My personal preference is pro Sony Ericsson, against Motorola, and so-so on Nokia. As far as I know, the other main brands of phone (LG, Samsung...) don't work too well if at all, with Macs, except for Palm and Windows PDA phones with a little help from The Missing Sync.

If you're not the iPhone type, get a Sony Ericsson.
M600i
or if you don't need a smart phone, but want a little MP3-playing phone...
W600i
If you don't want either, then there are a lot of other choices as well, but my experience with SEs has been great.
[EDIT] I'm anti flip phones, so that explains the absence of any recommendations.

it was this phone: Motorola Motorola V551
maybe you are right analogika, if it wasn't a flip phone it wouldn't have broken. if there is another phone with the same type of features my old one had (specularly the blue tooth and world phone feature) and a better camera, and it's not flip phone then I would consider it. also, IS there a phone with an iPod like dock charger?
alex
ps.
i would consider the iPhone if i was able to try it out for a while. just something about that thing makes me nervous of getting robbed

Check out the Sony Walkman phone line. However, finding a phone that fully works with Macs is hard.

I've got an SE m600 and quite like it. the phone has some nice features and feels good in the pocket and hand, but the UI can be a bit sluggish at times. Too many tranisition effects and such.

I would generally recommend any Sony Ericsson phone. They're all solid and have great interfaces. Aside from the low-end models, they tend to be pretty much fully loaded. You can get their phones unlocked on Amazon.com. If you insist on a flip phone, you can get the Z610 off of Amazon.com; it's very solid for a flip-phone.

I have an SE W810i, and I absolutely love this phone. You never mentioned what carrier you have, but if it is a GSM provider, like T-Mobile or Cingular, there is quite a selection of SE phones that you choose from.
You can check out sites like New Unlocked GSM Phones at CellsWholesale.com or www.importgsm.com if you are looking for something that isn't the everyday mundane phone.

Indeed, you're right, and I agree with you. I've even stopped using my iPod dock. X___X I used to be completely OCD about docking things, though. haha.

If Im not mistaken, there will be a quadband and triband version of the K610i.
Can anyone confirm this?
Edit: The Z750 is what I was thinking of. press release

Okay, instead of starting another thread, I figured I would ask this in here...
Does anyone here own or know someone who owns a Sony Ericsson m600i? I've begun to hate my SLVR, and I'm not ready to fork out $600 for an iPhone come June. I've wanted to get back to a SE recently, and I'm needing a smart phone that I know syncs well with my Mac. I saw this is the new Bond movie, and started researching a bit (which is why I suggested it earlier in the thread).
Anyone had any experience with one?

For Nokia, I prefer those powered by the Symbian OS. Sony Ericsson does offer long battery life AFAIK. Motorola.. lagging UI and not user friendly.

The battery life for SE phones is really long; both my previous T616 and current W600 last over a week on standby and moderate talking.

Even better, it has HSDPA; I might actually consider that over an iPhone.

it looks like the triband version has HSDPA, but I don't think that will work on cingular's network unfortunately.

Any unlocked quad band GSM phone will work with Cingular. You may even have luck with some tri band phones. I had a Motorola V60i tri band that worked pretty well with Cingular. It really depends on your location.
Did you check the links that I posted?

All the unlocked phones you can buy on Amazon (or any other website that sells unlocked phones) are Cingular-compatible.

Actually, it should work on Cingular , otherwise they wouldn't be officially releasing it in the U.S. But it doesn't come out for a while, so just ignore that phone.

@ Jawbone
See my post further up, or go to Mobile phone forum Index @ Esato and browse around under the UIQ 3 section, theres plenty of info about the m600 there.
Like i said earlier, i like it, its a nice phone. The only downside being the sluggish interface due to over use of transition effects but there is a hack that gets rid of them.

This is not exactly true. Cingular runs on 850, which tri band phones do not have. You might run into some problems depending on where you live using a tri band phone and Cingular. Your best bet is to stick with a quad band phone.

I have absolutely no idea how I missed that. Have you not tried the hack that gets rid of the transition effects?
Thank you.

Indeed. Most SE phones are quad-band, though (the non-3G ones, at least). All GSM RAZRs are, as well.

The GSM RAZR's are, but there are very few SE phones that are quad band. Most of the new unlocked SE phones out there are tri band.

I picked up a K800i about a month ago (my old phone decided to take a swim) and I really like it so far. Usable camera, iSync compatible, feature-rich and just a very solid phone overall.
My only grief with it is that the cameracover keeps sliding open while the phone is in my pocket - that activates the camera and drains the battery in just about no time.
Other than that I highly recommend this phone, at least until the iPhone comes out. (d'oh!)

Really? Hm. Interesting. That kinda sucks. Oh well. XD But of the ones that they've released this year, the K550, W610, Z750 and W580 are quad-band. Their mid-range phones tend to be quad-band, while their high-end and mid-low-end tends to be tri-band; their low-end tends to be dual-band.

I have a W810i, and I consider that to be midrange, and it is a quad band.

Yeah, hence my saying that SE's midrange phones tend to have quad band as opposed to their high and low end phones.
